I am a student who just interviewed for a summer internship with BP in September. I know they do urine and hair testing but I’m curious as to when the testing would occur because I know that most companies do their drug testing within 60 days of when you start working. I’m being flown to the on-site interview in 3 weeks, and if I get the offer I would find out by Thanksgiving. Does anyone know the actual timeline of these events? If I accept the offer, would they drug test me around Thanksgiving or wait until the 60 day period prior to my actual start date there in May?
@University2018 they should tell you when you need to take the drug tests.
In my internship, for example, I had to take the drug test within 3 days of accepting the offer.
It varies by employer. The ones I know had to do the testing within a window after accepting and before starting, but exactly when varied.
Of course, asking the question opens up other questions…such as, is it likely to be an issue for you?!
Exactly ^^^. Why do you need to know the timing of the testing???
Maybe turkey sandwiches on poppyseed rolls are a Thanksgiving tradition in the OP’s family?
I’m not trying to start any sort of discussion on politics or morality, but all I will say is that drug laws in the United States (and, partly by extension, employers’ views on drug use) are largely archaic and severely outdated. I don’t think it’s anybody’s business questioning the OP’s motive or personal habits, as long as those personal habits 1) are not dangerous for themselves or others, 2) are not an addiction, and 3) will not affect their professional life or the quality of their work as an employee.
Eyeroll… the OP also has the opportunity to not apply for or accept an internship where there is drug testing.
