I'm talking about being screwedup in school...Is it only Greenwich, or other schools too?

no it's quite common in my school. Fun too.

I don't see anything wrong with the consumption of alcohol every now and again...drugs is a different story for me however.

However, the fact that people come drunk to our football games and the administrators do nothing about it, ticks everyone off.

pssst...alcohol's a drug. Quite a harmful one at that when put in perspective with all the illegal drugs out there.

true...

i don't drink/smoke but...
my question is this:
alcohol clearly has harmful effects and can cause alcholism...marijuana is quiet differnet with no yearly deaths attributed to the drug...

my thoughts - marijuana is safer than alcohol

Because the effects of alcohol are evident to basically everyone. And in moderation alcohol is healthy for you :) I'd like to know the effects 20, 30 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 years from now of some of these substances popping up that haven't been around forever, or not used so much. Well, i guess you can safely drink alcohol without getting drunk, but the point of using pot/weed/grass is to get high, which makes it more dangerous to me.

that's what the experts say...unfortunately it's politicians running the show.

Interesting facts though: have you noticed the news and government demonizing methamphetamines (possibly rightly so, it's a very harmful drug) yet it's schedule II, because it is a legally prescribed ADD medication.

Alcohol is one of the very few drugs that actually damages the grey matter of the brain.

the vast majority of violence and deaths relating to drugs are not because drugs make people crazy, but the black market that surrounds the drugs which drives profit. Even overdoses are largely due to discrepancies in purity, all of which could be fixed by decriminalization and regulation. Drugs don't kill people, drug laws kill people.

Edited for the post above me: Opiates, marijuana, and cocaine have been around for more than 80 years, and don't cause serious long term issues aside from addiction with opiates. Who's to say that Marijuana doesn't have positive benefits as well, ever heard of nausea or the inability to eat? Ever watched a cancer patient? I'd say it's beneficial. Some of the chemicals are even thought to help prevent cancer, although that benefit is often negated by the act of smoking the drug. Also who are you to say people only smoke to get high, but may only hae a couple of drinks. I'm one to enjoy just a couple of hits and not be blazed out of my skull.

Don't talk about things you don't actually know about unless you got stats to back them up.

People use alcohol at my school quite a bit (not so much during school hours but...) because its legal here. Wine and beer at 16, everything else at 18. So its really no big deal.

Drug use it quite common. Most people use like marijuana, but there are the occasional ones who happen to enjoy cocaine. But most people just drink.

I agree saying that people smoke to get high...It's not to say having a hit or two won't be perfect but I often liked to be blazed to my face and smoke the whole blunt...

i still think weed is safer than alcohol b/c I don't think it is as addicting. I do believe it should be decriminalized and legalized - everyone will be safer...

keep this argument going: marijuana vs. alcohol...

also, whats the deal with denver, colorado - if you get pulled over by a city official and you are over 21 with less than an ounce are you fine?

I prefer alcohol because I simply don't like to smoke.

when i did what i did, i prefered to smoke. so much easier, less way of getting in trouble
cheaper
funner

For me I find alcohol infintely easier to obtain and use, mainly because I'm of legal age. lol.

I used to smoke sometimes at parties, it was fun then. But its not something I would do on a regular basis. I like to have a couple of drinks with friends- that's enough for me.

you're the man
i hate america, specifically greenwich, connecticut

Roflmao Yes, Dan, it is really really screwed up here in Greenwich. Apparently every Senior this year is into getting wasted all the time now. lol Its kinda pathetic, seeing how many are drinking, but a good amount smoke pot to. I yelled at a friend of mine right before Thanksgiving, he was acting as the middleman in a drug sale. <_<

Both are popular at my school...people come to basketball and football games either completely wasted or completely high.

I have no problem with drinking...it's the drugs that I just don't understand.

tooya...whats your first name

in 8th grade these "popular" girls (read: s l u t z) exchanged christmas gifts, and some of those gifts were bottles of wine O_O and i saw them secretly sipping the wine throughout the day...?!?!? as far as i know they didnt get caught

in my HS (and its a pretty good HS too), a few kids, especially the "emo kids" think drugs and alcohol are cool so they more or less brag about drinking and doing drugs. ... a dont know if it is true though, i like to think they are smart enough to not be doing it

however i sometimes see my friends' pictures of when ppl from my school hang out at someone's house.. and there is usually beer in quite a few different hands

What a tool.
You guys are pussies.
"O theres beer in one of their hands" - o those kids are rebels.

....

i used to drink A LOT but ive decided to tone it down til college, alcohol is much more harmful than pot... ive been arrested twice for alcohol and gotten in soooo much trouble other times but ive never been dumb enough to get in trouble when i was high. Despite what they say you do A LOT more dumb things drunk than high. At my Indiana school a lot of ppl got drunk or high every single weekend soph and junior year but most ppl have decided to stop for a while... although i suspect college will be a diff story.

Some of you guys need to chill out and relax, drugs arn't for everyone and that's fine, but there's nothing inherently evil about them. Used in moderation, drugs (alcohol included) will pose virtually no harmful effects. Yes it's illegal, but who's to say the law isn't wrong. You can say that it's not for you, or that legally it's not worth the risk, but don't go demonizing drugs by saying how bad they are for you or yelling at your friends for something you most likely know nothing about. Let people live their own lives and make their own decisions. Some of you guys don't want to drink or smoke or do coke or anything like that, fine, don't do it, but don't ***** and complain about other people who choose differently. We know the risks, and if we get caught we'll take the consequences, so just chill.
