In my HS about 60% of the kids smoked/smoke pot. I also go to a NYS school.

"I went to school in NY, so the pot smokers were mostly the gangster/bronx type. The people who I knew were in honors/ap classes and smoked pot/cigarettes/hookah were mainly indians and pakistani, although a large group of europeans did so as well."

Yup we are either doctors, engineers or pot heads!

Indians, Pakistanis, and there herbs. LOL

And of course how can we solve Calculus IIIIIIII problems without concentration!

This is hilarious....I never knew the young generation was out of realm with their culture values.

I know alot of people who smoke pot, including my roommate, her boyfriend, and one of my best friends. But I didn't know anybody last year. I think you sort of have to look for pot smokers, because they tend to keep among themselves (so they aren't ratted out to the police). I haven't really heard about people doing hard drugs though. One girl told me that she had done cocaine before, but other than that, I think most people just smoke pot or drink.

I guess if we're talking about weed, the groups are pretty open to blazing with new people. But for groups that do coke meth etc, those groups will be pretty hard to get into unless it's done at a party.

and lindz0722, even cigs didn't set off our dorm alarms (but a newly opened bag of popcorn did...go figure)

Weed is very popular in the freshman dorms. I'd say at least 1/3 do it at least once a week and I'd say that a majority of the people I know and talk to have at least tried it. At least about weed, I don't think its true that if your looking for it you'll find it and if your not you'll never find it. I wasn't looking for it and was offered on a weekly basis my freshman year. I think that saying is more to do with more hardcore drugs which i rarely if ever saw.

on the subject of smoke: you can take out the chip. also, joints don't cause enough smoke to set off a detector, but be careful with a medium sized to large bong, cause that produces a lot of smoke.
and yah, in CA prolly 50% smoke pot at least once a month, and like 35% more than that. (At least in the bay, pot is WAY good and WAY cheap) in LA, slightly less.
Anyone can smoke pot, and you wouldn't even know it. but it ain't a big deal. And wow, someone got arrested for smoking in the dorms,...that's sooo not cool.

hah i live in berkeley and at my high school...i'd say about 40% of my class smokes weed regularly and another 40% has tried it/smokes occaisonally. its good, its cheap, and as long as you're not a several-times-a-day person its not really not that harmful. there are two types of ppl who smoke hookah- WASP kids who are trying to act "ethnic" and then the middle easterns and southern euros (we're the ppl who own hookah pipes, hahaha). cigarettes are like taboo around here, the only ppl who smoke them are the middle easterns and euros.

i'd agree on thatt. and weed is way cheap up here, in LA, you can buy the same stellar grass for 60 that you buy here for 40.

If you're school is in a city with lots of places to hide (alleyways, sections between buildings, underneath emergency stairwells, etc)., getting caught with weed is unlikely.

My dad in the 1970s at UCSF went to school with a guy who grew weed out of his closest by stealing equipment from the Valley Life Sciences Building on the Berkeley campus, and another guy who had an addiction to crack. The weed dealer graduated with his doctorate in dentistry, but the crack addict didn't make it.

what's so bad about it anyways? I've never tried it, but I've never heard of any real negative effects.

if you're not careful, pot's gonna slow you down mentally. You'll forget ****. But your minds pretty powerful, and pot's not a physical addiction, for those who become really addicted, they would've been addicted to something anyways (that's the big myth of the gateway theory).
Anything you inhale (like smoke) is gonna hurt your lungs, although pot is JUST pot not like cigarrettes which have so much crap in them.
So really the harm is no more than alcohol (less than alcohol realy), but it's still not all good for you.
But, as long as you moderate yourself, and don't go broke from toking, you're fine, ain't nothing wrong with that.

LOLL...trust me, ppl who get into elite schools do pot. therez this guy in my class; got into Yale, he smokes, drinks...etc. lolll typical human

If you're looking for it, you'll find it. If you're not, you'll either never see it or find aways to avoid it.

It's easy to avoid and people usually don't pressure you into using it, but if you party at all, you will see people smoking weed.

I'd estimate that at least of a third of the people at my school smoke weed. This is probably about the average for colleges, not including those that are conservative and/or religiously affiliated.

I go to Stony brook and there's a girl on my floor that smokes weed (and she live right next to the R.A.). She smokes in the bathroom with the windows wide open.....but hey, you can't hide it much, it spread around the corridor. Even if the RHD's see it, (like last term a group of them saw it) they don't really do anything. My friend has a problem with the roomate that smokes weed last year, but the RHD said, "Cope with it. I've talked to her not to smoke in front of you." uh.....I thought weed isn't allowed...o_O And the RHD is helpless
