Two daughters, neither of which showed any excitement over acceptances. But both were really vocal about places they DIDN’T want to attend! My assessment is that a college education was expected of them, so getting a few acceptances was simply no big deal.

Indiana was my safety yet I was ecstatic and might actually attend there. I made myself not excited for the schools that are reaches or matches so I dont get too attached.

This thread is incredibly enlightening…It would be nice if all of you could go tell your parents why you have been slightly apathetic; you are all very introspective!!! (and make an incredible amount of sense)…You have really helped me understand my d’s reaction throughout this process…

The only jumping for joy DD did was for her acceptance to PSU, which attends now. For all the other acceptances she had pretty much the same reaction, “whatever” more or less.

I sure appreciate the input I’ve seen in this thread! Here I was thinking we were the only ones in this boat.

My S was actually pretty excited today when he opened one of his acceptance packets (he knew about the acceptance online two weeks ago) and saw a nice merit scholarship.

Yesterday I told my son that he should check his online application status for the other schools he’s applied to. His response? “I’ll wait for the letters.” Now we all know that I’m going to continue to check, an now I’m going to have to hide my excitement (or dissapointment) for a few weeks until he gets the “letters.” I’m not happy about this new development.

On a positive note, I asked him yesterday if he’d told anyone at school that he’d gotten acceptances. He told me that a girl in his graduating class is going to Tulane. He doesn’t know her well, but she approached him, so obviously he told several people and word got around. This at least tells me that he’s at least interested in this whole “college application” process.

After “lurking” on this site for over a year, I realize that the posts that we read from students are those incredibly motivated students who probably don’t have/need nagging helicopter parents. I think I need to stay on the parent forum to stay grounded and understand what the “real” world is like.

I’m addicted to CC and it’s great.

jjcddg – My D wouldn’t come anywhere near CC with a ten-foot pole, and while she’s mildly interested in some of the things I read here, I think she regards my addiction with some fond, bemused concern for my sanity.

Haha! Are you sure you’re not talking about MY D?! She drives me nuts.

We’ve only received one acceptance (from a safety) thus far, and her reaction upon opening the (thin) “Congratulations” envelope was definitely underwhelmed.

But yesterday, her second scholarship offer (full tuition) arrived with a congratulatory letter from the town Mayor! THAT was a bit of a surprise – and elicited sufficient reaction that she actually got on the computer and started taking a real look at the place. rolling eyes Kids!

Happy Thanksgiving all!
