DSP vs Wireless Communications

Hi guys,

I have to choose a course for the next semester and I am confused whether to choose DSP or wireless communications. I like wireless communications, but I am really curious how DSP works since a lot around us is based on DSP. I can take both together, but this would create some conflicts and would mean I would have to drop operating systems, which I don't want to because I really want to know how OS works and want to keep the software option open.

So between DSP and wireless communications, which one would be more useful for jobs and/or if I want to get into research? Which one is more fundamental? I have seen some jobs( from Qualcomm) having DSP as a requirement, but am not quite sure what to do.

Thanks,

I've taken both classes at Georgia Tech and DSP was one of the hardest major courses for EE/Cmpe. It had a lab where the wireless courses didn't. I found them both interesting but DSP was much much harder. One of the few classes I had where the professor allowed us to bring in one 8.5 x 11 cheat sheet full of equations for each exam. After taking DSP i didn't really use much of it prior to graduating. Now I work on combat systems for a U.S. defense contractor and i've had wireless comms stuff come up from time to time but haven't seen any applications where i've needed to use anything i've learned in DSP.
