DU EA class of 2025

Awesome! Is DU in the running for you? Have you visited?

Definitely considering! From the east coast, so I haven’t visited yet, but I am waiting for all my acceptances to start really considering where I want to be!

How about you?

@Cayla2021 Not sure. D likes mid-sized schools with big school spirit. Denver made the cut for that! Easy to fly there, family nearby who she loves. Not an outdoor type of gal, though, but I think her personality would fit with the students there. I think, all things being equal, she’d rather a warmer campus. We have not visited. She’s casting a wide net because we really just don’t know what to expect since she’s test optional and only visited two of the schools on her list. Really hoping visits can happen in March or April

My Daughter has a 3.9 UW, 4.56 W, 32 superscore, 9 APs and a dual enrollment when done. She got the $27K/$3K. Of course, today U of South Carolina came out and gave her at least $85K over four years and Alabama came out with special scholarships and raised her from $24K to $28K. While I appreciate Denver, as a parent, it’s still more than $45K a year vs. say $18K at Alabama and $26K at South Carolina. How do you decide what’s right in these cases? Does it truly matter where you go?

My son is so excited that he was admitted with a nice merit scholarship! DU has been #1 on his list for some time. That excitement was quickly replaced with disappointment as his best friend did not get accepted. They were planning to room together and had amazing plans. We are very sad that this happened and cannot figure out why it did, since they have similar stats. I know he has time to figure things out, but right now he is filled with disappointment. He has other options he’s weighing now where they can follow through on their plans as they were both admitted to other schools. He fears going to college an not knowing anyone, so having at least one person there that he knows is a big deal. He can be a real introvert, so we will see if this sways his decision. He’s still waiting for 4 more decisions too.

That’s so tough! Maybe he could join the ZeeMee chat for admitted students? There’s a link in their portal just above the video once they’re admitted. My daughter can be a bit introverted. She joined and has really enjoyed chatting with other students. She’s majoring in Political Science and has found a fun group to chat with about it. Wishing him the best regardless of what he decides!

Thanks! He has been reading the chats, but hasn’t joined in yet.

Many kids struggle - lack of friends, tough classes, roommate match that doesn’t work. But there are so many kids that go with friends…that end up being acquaintances or only at home friends. By Spring, it gets better. Kids will grow, make new friends, find romantic partners, and all the other stuff. It’s part of growing. In some ways if you go with a best friend from home, you could stifle that growth. So if your son really loves Denver and your family could afford it, you should still pursue it. With social media as it is today, it’s easy to stay connected. I’m sure most kids (like 98%) are going in a similar boat - needing and wanting to make new friends.

So full financial letter came today. Nothing additional on top of the 23/3 offered with acceptance. Bummer.
Can’t justify $45,000 with 2 in college next year and then 3 the year after.

My daughter got some additional grants (need) and I really wish we lived a little closer.

We don’t live close (Northeast) but my son would LOVE to be in Colorado. :frowning:

You could try asking for more or appealing the financial aid. We’re in NJ and it’s far but still on the table.

Yes. We might end up doing that. I think he just wants to wait to hear back from the rest of his schools. Make sure what his number one is before asking for more. I wouldn’t want to ask for more, have it granted and then decide he’s not going there

Yippee! Daughter decided that DU is her top choice and has committed to attend there! So happy with her choice. Colorado, here she comes! Wishing everyone the best in making those tough decisions!

How great that she decided! Mine is still unsure and will wait till she hears from the other schools she applied to, but Denver is at the top of the list at the moment!

DD just got her packet in the mail. The financial aid info was nicely laid out and easy to understand. I have been very impressed by them so far and I hope she keeps it under consideration.

We toured this weekend. They have a wonderful self guided tour. It seemed to follow our location on campus - and then prompt to what was next. It’s a very nice campus south of downtown. Not huge but nice sized. I recommend it if you get the chance so you can see if there’s a spark to your kid or not.

They have a nice new dorm. I need to check to see if that’s one that qualifies for the $3K. I’m guessing not - but maybe it does.
