Dual Econ/Business or Dual Math/Business??

Hi everyone!

So I am a 3rd year student, and I recently switched into the Business major concentrating in Supply Chain Management. I really like SCM. but as I look more and more at the job market it seems like a more quantitative background is needed for the kinds of jobs in SCM that I want to do. My rough goal is to do consulting (ideally focusing on SCM projects) for a few years out of college and then get a job in Supply Chain at a technology company.

However, after doing some research I have noticed that for most technology companies they want you to have a more “quantitative” background to work in their SCM departments (Ive seen “Economics, engineering, or math” stated a lot). I am kind of afraid that I wont be eligible to work for some of the cooler, more rigorous companies that I have been looking at just with my Business degree alone. This is why I have considered Dual Econ/Business or Dual Math/Business. With either dual major I am still able to concentrate in SCM.

I prefer Econ classes to Math and have done better in Intro to Micro & Intro to Macro Econ than I have in Calc 1 & 2. I got A’s in the Econ courses but a B- in Calc 1 and a C+ in Calc 2 (although I think this was because I took the math classes when I was a freshman). I actually am decent in math and think today I wouldnt do bad in the math classes, but my GPA will definitely be higher by doing the Econ instead of Math. When I spoke to the Dual Econ/Business adviser he told me that the Econ program at my university is NOT heavily math-based like others are and he said math might be a better option for my concerns, because an understanding of math will help in SCM.

Do you all have any thoughts on this? Would a Dual degree in Econ/Business or Math/Business be more useful for my goals? Also, do you think that the conclusions I’ve made about the SCM job market are even true? It seems to me like they are but I would love to hear from someone who is actually in the field.

Thanks everyone!
