Dual Enrollment or Internship?

Hi, I am part of my school’s Early College Program ( aka ECP) and this summer I just started taking Speech and U.S. History, which are required courses for the ECP program. 1 week ago, I also started an virtual marketing internship at a women’s organization, I do research on anything relating to women’s history, press releases. However, this internship has been way too time consuming and it’s only the 1st week, out of 8 weeks. My ECP courses are 4 weeks, so my professors are trying to cram a semester’s worth of material into 4 weeks. Today was my 1st day of virtual ECP classes, oh lord, I have a speech to prepare for, 2 tests this week, readings, and lecture assignments. My professor even said that her speech class will be “intense 4 weeks”, I’ve looked at the syllabus and the curriculum is very heavy.

Should I do both; the internship and ECP courses or just ECP?

I am a bit worried that the internship will consume most of my time, so I’m afraid I won’t be able to study for exams, homework assignments, thus making it hard to get an A.

I was originally going to do a City of Hope internship (because I’m interested in STEM) but that got canceled so my counselor put me in this marketing internship even though I wasn’t really interested.

Factors I am thinking about: 1) Your dual enrollment classes will be a part of your college GPA or at least the grades would be on your transcript, 2) can you take the classes some other time? Or was this the only time you can fit them in? Is staying in ECP important to you? 3) Now that you are in the internship, are you interested? It’s not in your desired field but do you like it? Could you make connections in it, or get experience that will be valuable to you in the future? 4) Dropping out of the internship could be iffy, and is definitely something to discuss with the counselor first, actually might want to talk this whole situation over with that counselor.

Summer classes are hard and you are wise to really consider if you can handle the workload of both!
