dude

im aiming for haas so i called the transfer counselor right now and asked her if i can take econ 102, phil, and social and she said that it was fine...i told her i was taking mass communications and then she says it wont go through as a requirement but as transferable points, is this true?

what i did saw that haas says three courses of social and behavioral sciences i then went to my igetc form and looked under that category and it shows mass comm 101 as one

she said no go on assist it shows what classes you can take but i still hope shes wrong because it says

"Social and Behavioral Sciences: Three courses from areas such as Anthropology,
Archaeology, Economics (other than micro- or macro-economic theory), Ethnic
Studies, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and
Women's Studies."

but it says SUCH AS...so that is only a few of them...right?

i dont understand what i should follow i feel that assist just mainly says the amount of courses to take and provides some examples and i would need to look at igetc which has the classes and numbers (101)

YESSS (I HOPE) i just went directly to haas's site and clicked on breadth guidelines and it said

"SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES

3 Courses focusing on areas such as: African American Studies, Agricultural & Resource Economics, American Studies, Anthropology, Archaeology, Architecture, Asian American Studies, Asian Studies, Chicano Studies, City & Regional Planning, Demography, Economics (microeconomics and macroeconomics may NOT be used to satisfy breadth requirements), Education, Environmental Design, Environmental Science, Ethnic Studies, Geography, History, Interdisciplinary Studies, International and Area Studies, Journalism, Landscape Architecture, Legal Studies, Linguistics, Mass Communications, Military Affairs, Native American Studies, Peace & Conflict Studies, Political Economy of Industrial Societies, Political Science, Psychology, Public Health, Public Policy, Religious Studies, Social Welfare, Sociology, Undergraduate & Interdisciplinary Studies, Women's Studies."

mass comm is in there, these stupid counsolers they know nothing i knew she was wrong...at least 4 times they gave me wrong info, then im like i was about to take history 102 and philosophy until i found out you only need 1 course from humanites and the idiot said you would be fine it would go to social science...you idiot those are completely diff history classes!

dang u wrote a lot =.= i m really lazy to read the whole thing but remember this

the way haas categorizes ur classes, and the way IGETC does, is different

i think thats where most of the confusion sets in

i thought it was only different because igetc says you need 3 arts and human and it has diff math and eng req...thats it

erm...
the confusing thing when i was planning my schedule was that US history was under some section of IGETC i dun quite remember yet
US history was under social and behavioral sciences.
so the class serves a different purpose when u compare its use in igetc and haas breadth req

my only advice is if ur planning for haas, plan ur classes based on haas reqs. then from there fill any other holes u need for your backup classes.
that also means u need to take a bit more classes

i want to apply to usc as a back up as well, but i dont want to compare classes with haas (like i want to take socialogy now for haas, usc might require something similar that would have been acceptable with haas as well)

right now it just seems really confusing trying to break down haas and usc classes to fit each other (lol i feel like im breaking a bank lock)

Funny thread title.

Anyway, that's another disadvantage of applying to an impacted major--you can't really take 'fun' classes since you risk having incomplete pre-reqs for one school or another.
