@soccerboy10‌

I’d say that Duke is a medium reach. Your numbers (gpa, act, etc.) are probably about on par with the applicant pool, but don’t necessarily stand out. You seem to have a relatively strong presence in each of the activities that you participate in, which is good, but, again, I don’t think they make you stand out much above the applicant pool. I think the most intriguing part of what you’ve mentioned is the amount of time you spent doing community service and working hard to create opportunities for yourself when they may not have been easily presented to you. If you expanded on this type of idea in your essays, I think that should help bolster your application. It’s difficult to completely rate you because of the fact that I haven’t personally read your essays and I think there may be more to your application that you have left out. I think you are probably strong enough to give yourself a fair chance in the pool, but you always have to keep in mind how selective of an institution Duke is and how many great applicants they turn away. Also remember that Duke has already accepted about half of their 2019 class through the early decision pool. That being said, good luck tomorrow.

@Twojesnny Late as always but, mind chancing me?

Felt my common app essay was strong. Wrote about Karate and it’s impact on my character. Counselor had no suggestions and said it was one of the best she had seen. Also used for one UC prompt.
School report/Counselor Rec: Absolutely no idea. Did not talk to her until senior year and she writes for all seniors.
Teacher Rec English 9/10. Strong relationship with teacher
Teacher Rec Biology. 8/10 Similar to English, but not as strong
