Duke Class of 2018 RD Discussion

@matrixsurgeon

Just in your head?
Lol, I’ve written them all down ;)

@EtiquetteOfWar
Haha no not in my head. I calculated them out yesterday night (I really like messing with statistics and stuff, doing predictions and projections is fun too!). But by now, I pretty much have them ingrained in my head.

Another number is that 54 of 691 deferred ED decisions were offered admission, representing 7.8% of the pool.

Are we finding out by mail, email or portal?

@caseyjbauer in the e-mail it said portal

Based on the admission blog Duke had around 2500 valedictorians apply when only 50% of the applicants came from schools that rank. That would realistically mean 5000 applicants that were number 1 in their class applied for 1705 spots. At that point you don’t get rejected you are fortunate enough to be accepted.

lol, my brother got a thin letter from Duke today…

…obviously the day that OFFICIAL decisions come out.

My mom and I were like what the heck?! Thin decision = rejection. So why would they send out a rejection letter the same day BEFORE the letter would come out online?

Turns out it was likely letter!

Still don’t understand why they would send a likely letter the same day as decisions but we are very excited.

My mom also found it funny how they call it a ‘Likely Letter’. And she’s totally right.

The word ‘likely’ implies a very good chance (something like 75% chance of acceptance) yet the letter conveys that the dude is a LOCK for admission.

“The Admissions Committee has reviewed your application, and I am delighted to tell you that you stood out as one of a small group of applicants who seems particularly well matched to Duke this year. In a pool of over 32,000 candidates, this is a significant accomplishment. The Admissions Committee enthusiastically expects to offer you admission formally in the coming week.”

how much does finishing first in your class actually help? I live in Australia so we don’t have valedictorians, we have school Dux, and I was co Dux. Will that help me?

how do we check for Duke decision?

Rejected by UChicago and Yale, wait listed by Washington. Come on Duke, please don’t fail me.

Rejected by three Ivies, Carnegie Mellon, and Berkeley. Not expecting much from Duke sadly…

^lol, I’ve been rejected by 12 places so far. :P

Rejected by Cornell, UPenn, and now Duke. I guess no college wants me. :(

You gotta laugh at yourself though. :))

Well that was a bust

rejected from duke, dart, and yale, waitlisted at Harvard, accepted to emory

■■■ gives?

Rejected! Ah Duke, top choice too. Rejected from Yale, UPenn, and Cornell too.
Ah well, wasn’t expecting anything else in reality. Tough numbers this year!
Congrats to all accepted!!!
