Yeah, my S said he got email releasing decision on the 27th!! lol, along with the Ivies:)) should be an interesting day

my apologies, 7PM

Going to be a crazy day for me…

Didn’t get an email. I haven’t received any of the Duke emails that people have been posting about at all. I know I shouldn’t be concerned but I am concerned.

If anything the email discouraged me haha; especially the “When you decide to check your decision online, we strongly encourage you to do so in the privacy of your own residence, not at school. We believe your decision is a private matter, and for many reasons we have found it is best for applicants to be away from friends and classmates when they check their decisions.”

I thought it was a pre-rejection letter.

A lot of colleges recommend looking at the decision letter at home because of the emotions that often come out either way it goes. I know two students who didn’t heed this advice and opened their online decision letters in public places. Both broke down into tears–and they were accepted, one to ED Columbia and one to EA UNC.

^aha, thought the same

Don’t be discouraged about that. That has been standard Duke advice for ALL applicants in both RD and ED for the last several years. Good luck, and go Devils!

I just received this email about 15 minutes ago, are they sending them in batches?

Somebody should get the results thread up soon now that the date and time are public knowledge.

I received this email but it had gone into my junk. I want to know if this is a fraud or if it is real. I just put an email to Duke asking about it too :-

Congratulations! It gives me great pleasure to inform you that, from over 32,250 applicants for admission to Duke University, you have been accepted to join the Class of 2018. Additionally, you are one of 30 students we have selected as finalists for membership in our prestigious University Scholars Program.

University Scholars are selected from the very best students who apply for financial aid at Duke, and your selection as a finalist is a tribute to your exceptional academic and extracurricular qualifications. The University Scholars Program offers four years’ (eight semesters) undergraduate tuition at Duke. The award covers 100% tuition, plus room, board, and mandatory fees (Last year tuition and mandatory fees amounted to $45,476 and room and board $12,300). In addition, at the end of their second or third year, University Scholars also receive financial support for an intensive internship, research experience, or summer abroad.

The value of the University Scholars Program award exceeds $57,000 annually, and is renewable for four years so long as you maintain the requirements of the scholarship. Even if you do not receive the University Scholars Program award, in recognition of being chosen as a finalist for one of Duke’s full merit scholarships, you will receive a Duke Honors Scholarship. This scholarship will cover all need-based financial aid in the form of a grant rather than a loan, so there is no repayment required. It’s a scholarship that addresses both your financial need and your academic merit, factors which made you a finalist for the University Scholars Program in the first place!

Duke prizes its University Scholars finalists: each of you has already demonstrated extraordinary dedication and promise, with an extra spark of intellectual boldness, creativity, and an ability to explore new academic horizons. We honor your past accomplishments and are excited about your potential to explore the array of opportunities the University Scholars Program offers.

Established in 1998 with a gift from Duke University Trustee Melinda French Gates and her husband Bill Gates, this extraordinary scholarship is unique in the entire United States. The University Scholars Program is both a scholarship and a community of scholars. It brings together top undergraduate students with the best graduate and professional school students for an on-going series of seminars, research opportunities, social events, career sessions, mentoring relationships and networking opportunities.

The University Scholars Program is committed to having international students in our cohort. Due to the challenges of international travel, the final stage in the selection process is a Skype video or telephone interview during which we get to know you and you get to know us. We have interviewed students from Bulgaria, China, India, Japan, Nepal, Pakistan, Romania, Tibet, Turkey, Zambia, and Zimbabwe by Skype or telephone, and they have accepted our offer in past years.

We would be delighted to work with you to schedule a telephone interview or video conference interview instead, at a time convenient to you and to our faculty and students on the interview panel, given international time zone differences. Please do let me know your availability by Thursday, March 27th. I can be reached via email at val1@duke.edu.

Recipients of scholarship awards will be notified by email the week following finalist weekend. We have enclosed a brochure with more information about the University Scholars Program and its mission, as well as the Candidate Information Form, the answers to which will form the starting point for our interview with you.

Please send your completed candidate information form and a photo of yourself by email to: ousf@duke.edu or fax to (919) 681-7059 by Thursday, March 27th.

Of course, if you have any questions about the University Scholars Program, please don’t hesitate to contact me at (919) 684-5202, or by e-mail (val1@duke.edu). The current University Scholars, my faculty colleagues and I look forward to speaking with you by telephone during our interview.

Sincerely,

@altolime, congrats ! Did you receive the university scholar email today ?

@Dad2013 no, it says that I got it two days ago but is it actually real?! It seems like a lie to me due to its going into the junk mail. I am so confused and anxious to know if this is legitimate.

@AltoLime Sometimes these university emails end up in spam because the email addresses they are sent from aren’t in your contacts list. You should be ecstatic! You are officially one of Duke’s Class of 2018. Congrats!

wow. Just wow. Still going to call Duke tonight (it is morning here in Pakistan right now) and confirm.

It is VERY legit. The email format seems very similar to AB Duke , BN Duke finalist letters

You are IN! Congratulations! But, you don’t have the scholarship just yet. You are a “finalist.” You still have to interview via Skype and you have to send additional information including a picture (so they now who they are interviewing is really you, I suppose).

I email Duke and just got the response. I am officially DUKE CLASS OF 2018!! ahahaha feels so great. Thank you God! They are guaranteeing that they will meet my full financial need and are also allowing me to shoot for the full ride What a great day!

@altoLime Congrats!!! Thats truly awesome! The rest of us still have to sweat it out haha.

@AltoLime - Wow!! So happy for you! Congratulations!
