There is absolutely NO statistically significant difference in acceptance rates between those who were, and were not, interviewed.

Do you guys know what appears on the screen when you log into the portal to check your decision? Is it just a copy of an acceptance/rejection/deferral letter?

Did anybody receive two different booklets in the mail today from Duke? Not sure if it is a good sign or if it is just something that they send out to all ED applicants.

@lukenn510 were the titles “Know No Bounds” and “Your Future is Yet to Be Built”?

@classof2019a Yes. Those are the ones.

@lukenn510 and @classof 2019a can you guys talk more about the contents in the mails?

@Luckybill

“Know No Bounds”: Comprehensive booklet (much like Wake Forest’s 2015-2016 Viewbook) that details your possible four years at Duke. It begins with introductions and moves on to discussion of specific Duke programs. Very informative.

“Your Future is Yet to be Built”: Pamphlet that contains some quick facts. It turns into a pencil holder if you cut on the dotted lines.

thanks classof2019a, not know whether 2018er also received the same.

I received those booklets a few weeks ago. I think it’s something that all ED applicants get.

I received both of those shortly after I submitted my application in late October.

Does anyone know what appears on the screen when you log into the portal to check your decision? Is it just a copy of an acceptance/rejection/deferral letter?

Yes that’s what I have heard. You Will receive the same letter in the mail too.

Thanks @Hersheybar315.
Do you guys getting deferred is just a premature rejection? How high have the chances been in the past to get in during the regular round after getting deferred?

@dv2410 About the same as someone who just applied RD.

“About the same as someone who just applied RD.” Why would that be if it is more difficult to get admitted (i.e. need better credentials/stats) during the RD round? Sure you’d be considered again but if you don’t get in ED, seems like its a real streach for RD.

@wayneandgarth: Duke works very hard to balance the percentage of each class obtained from ED and from RD applicants. After all, Duke could easily fill every ‘19 seat exclusively with ED (or RD) candidates, and the resultant class would be entirely indistinguishable from those who will matriculate next August. This is only one of several important optimizations in each class’ composition and, obviously, the more elements to be harmonized, the more difficult it is to achieve the desired outcomes and the aggregate balances. Further, ED’s statistical acceptance advantage is truly marginal. Thus, @dancingwriter is fundamentally correct; those ED candidates who are deferred to RD will be assessed by the same standards, at the same times, and with substantially the same results as the RD cohort. Basically, the two applicant pools (ED and RD) are near-identical in statistical composition; what principally differs is the ED applicants’ early commitment to Duke.

Is it bad I never got the pencil holder…

I never got one either. I hope it’s not that big of a deal.

I mean if it’s for all ed applicants I don’t see why they weren’t sent to some of us:(

Me neither. D:
