Duke Class of 2020 Waitlist

Please post if you guys learn anything new!

Anyone already heard from Duke now?

And for the question, considering all sorts of complexities, I would guess around 70 are to be taken from the the waitlist. And yes maths says otherwise that around 90 are to be taken.

Anyone hear anything yet?

Nothing.

hey just wanted to share with you guys that my regional admissions officer told me that she doesnt want to “create false hope as it is unlikely we will be able to turn to the waitlist”

Also want to share that my regional AO told me “it’s still unclear if we will be admitting from our waitlist”.

Out of curiosity, where are you guys planning on attending if Duke doesn’t pan out?

Still hoping that waitlisted students (or some of them at least) can receive offers of admission.

I’ll be attending UC berkeley if Duke doesn’t pan out.

Will attend Berkeley if Duke doesn’t work out lol

I curious why AOs are saying they are not sure about whether they will head for the waitlist because maths clearly tells us that there will be spaces available. And of course, given that the yield rate doesn’t grow dramatically (that says over 2%).

Sometimes if a school over enrolls one year, they will under enroll the next to account for housing constraints. So that may be a reason why the wait list doesn’t move much

Did you guys receive anything from Duke in the regular mail regarding wait list?

Most likely they enrolled ~1700 students and are waiting to see if a significant portion of them get off the waitlist somewhere else and choose that place over Duke (unlikely) which is why they are giving it time.

Son will attend Cornell Engineering if Duke waitlist is closed.

Nothing came to our house in the regular mail regarding the Duke wait list. Not sure what emails my son has received about it, if any?

MOMANDBOYSTWO Same here.

@Rhapsody99 . To determine the likely draw from a wait list, you need to break up yield into ED & RD. ED yield is approximately 100%. RD yield was about 35% last year, a couple of points higher than expected. So, for every 100 RD acceptances, we can expect approximately 35 enrollees.

Best of luck. To be placed on the wait list, you are obviously qualified and will do well wherever you end up.

@wisteria100 I may imagine it may also affect the transfer applicant pool as well.

@wstrav Where did you pull that RD yield number from? I know the overall yield last year was closer to 50%.

I will be attending the University of Central Florida if I don’t get off the waitlist.
