Duke Class of 2022 Waitlist Thread

Hey guys, any news on the waitlist?

Anyones counselor call to ask if they are taking people off this year?

@milkman002 I emailed a LOCI to my regional counselor recently and the reply back mentioned that it is still to early to tell if they are going to waitlist/how many people they would take.

Did anyone get an email today asking to reaffirm their interest?

@lilia3 Hmm, i did not get this. Did you already send a LOCI? And how did you get this email from? Do you mind taking a screenshot or copy-paste

Yes I already sent a LOCI and confirmed on the portal- did you? It was from my regional admissions officer. I’m not sure how to send a picture on this!

@lilia3 I did not receive an email like that

same @traaash @lilia3

how long did the AOs take to respond back to your LOCI ?

@milkman002 my AO replied in a day or two

oh @traaash what did he/she say? mine still hasnt replied  but its only been 1 day so far

@milkman002

Dear Traaash –

Thank you so much for your email.

I know the waitlist decision was not the decision you were hoping for, and I’m sorry I do not have better news for you. As you know, this year we received more than 37,000 applications and were only able to admit less than 7% of students who applied for Regular Decision. Please understand that our decision was not a judgment on you as a student or a person, but a reflection of our limited space and talented applicant pool.

At the moment, I don’t know yet how many (if any) students we will be able to admit from the waiting list, and unfortunately we have to wait until early- to mid-May to really have a clearer sense of how many places might be available. I have added this memo to your application and am happy to add any further correspondences/updated information you wish to provide.

The most important thing I want to convey to you is that the process has not ended here and you should not lose all hope. Waitlist applicants have a second chance in the admissions process. Here is my list of suggestions and advice that I always pass along when speaking with waitlist students:

  1. Right now focus on your admission to other schools. Though obvious, your chance for admission to Duke is not guaranteed and you want to focus on the schools to which you have been admitted.

  2. Make sure you update the academic portion of your application. This would include final grades (which will play an important role in your re-review),

  3. Submit any additional standardized test or AP test scores,

  4. Consider updating the non-academic portion of your application / resume. Just make sure anything you add does contribute in a new way to your application. I would suggest sending along the updates, not a newly revised resume.

  5. Most importantly, have a stellar remainder of your senior year academically. The most important part of the review of an waitlisted applicant is their academic progress throughout senior year.

  6. While expressed interest in Duke is not a factor in the regular admission process, it can be a factor in being selected from the waitlist. If Duke still holds an interest for you, please keep in touch with updates. Your continued enthusiasm for Duke can set you apart on the waitlist.

I’m sorry I don’t have a better sense of how things will turn out, but I appreciate your interest in Duke. Thanks again, and best wishes for a good conclusion to your senior year.

My best –

@traaash My regional admissions officer sent me something like that, too. She said that she is putting my LOCI in my admissions file for review.

Got the same email

@lilia3 were you taken off the WL?

Got accepted off the waitlist today! Now I have a week to decide if I can afford it, also I can’t see financial aid yet. I’m super happy!
