Guys counselors do sometimes get confidential information (well… supposed to be confidential) that they’re not supposed to share with students (including regarding specific decisions for certain students). So it might not just be baloney.
@orangeandblack21 seeing ur dog convinced me to make my profile picture my dog lol
Hey guys!! Is there anyone applying for a major in the humanities?? I’m doing art history!
Rip. I didn’t really consider my major so I said pre-med. Probably the most competitive pool ):
lets all put our numbers or twitters or something in and make an actual group chat. who’s down
We should do another app that doesn’t include personal info (idk what options there really are) where we can just do usernames? I mean I don’t really use twitter and I never post so for me twitter is fine but numbers are kind of sketch since this is a completely public thread
Real talk tho who is actually planning on going to school on Thursday?
me and I have an exam, too. so thatll be super fun to try to focus on
I haven’t been able to fall asleep easily for the past week. It’s taken me like an hour and a half each night :))
DO I EVEN HAVE A CHANCE? ADVICE?
Applied to Trinity as an environmental sciences and policy major.
State: Florida
ACT: 34C (31 M, 35 E, 36 R, 35 S)
GPA:3.6 UW, 4.2 W
Rank: 25/140
APs: my school only offers 10 APs, so that holds me back. AP English Lang (4), AP US (5), AP HUG (5). Taking AP Lit, AP Macro, AP Gov, APES, AP Psych and AP Stats this year. We also cant take APs until junior year.
School: small Catholic high school.
ECs: Congressional Award Silver Medal, about 800 hours of community service. President of Literary Club. Published photographer in a few magazines.
Race: half Dutch and half Cherokee (Native American).
Legacy: my grandfather went to Duke but never graduated because he was drafted in the Korean War. I have a few cousins who have graduated from Duke.
Interview: I thought it went well. When I walked out, the interviewer told me that my attitude was refreshing for someone with such a complicated life. He said I wasn’t cookie-cutter, which is what Duke wants.
Recommendations: Should be 10/10. Picked my favorite two teachers who also loved me.
Also sent a photography supplement to try to differentiate me more.
Also, my school has an IB program without the ability to choose your own courses. I opted out of IB because I wanted to be able to take APES and other classes that interested me a lot. However, the 18 IB students have the top 18 spots in the class because all of their grades are on a 6.0 scale (even their religion). So the ranking system is weird, which my counselor put in the letter. There’s only one grade in my transcript that isn’t an A (mostly) or B+, it is a D from AP Spanish sophomore year. I didn’t show up for the exam and the school wouldn’t let me retake it because my mom was getting surgery (her first mastectomy) that day.
Freshman year I was injured playing volleyball and my wrist had to be operated on, but they could not permanently fix it until my growth plates closed. My mom was diagnosed with stage III cancer at the same time my grandfather died, and my grandma began to have small strokes (TIAs) almost every other week (started my sophomore year). Plus, my younger brother has cerebral palsy. Therefore, it was really hard for me to focus as much on my grades as I had to take both my grandma and mom to the doctor and my little brother to school and physical therapy. I had to focus a lot on my home life. While my ACT and GPA are good, my GPA is not Duke material. I know this is a reach. So much has gone wrong, it’d be nice for something to go right for once, ugh.
Someone tell me straight up, even if it’s negative.
From my point of view I think that if you explained the circumstances you have a good shot since you were still able to excel even through your struggles. Your ACT scores are also “duke material” and you have great extracurriculars! Best of luck @luvinit
@1256asas thank you so much!
You are more than just duke material… you’re duke matter itself. Idk what that means or where I was going with that but I think you have a great shot and you need not fret. Best of luck!!! @luvinit
did anyone apply to program 2?
33 hours left…
Time seems to be passing remarkably slow…
NYC anyone?
Pennsylvania?
