sanjanagupta1: Look, the whole process is pretty much a crap shoot. A friend of mine had both parents as Vanderbilt alums, a 33 ACT and only one B. She didn’t go ED and was waitlisted – ended up at UNC. A guy on Wall Street Oasis went ED to UPenn-Wharton and was denied outright. Then he was waitlisted at Vandy and Duke, but got in RD to Cornell, Notre Dame and Princeton! How do you get waitlisted at Vandy but then get into Princeton RD? Another kid last year was denied outright at Tulane, waitlisted at Vandy (his mom went there) and got into Georgetown. How do you get denied Tulane and then get into Georgetown? The recruiter from USC who came to my high school said she was denied when she applied to USC (just works there now), but she got into Columbia. Again, makes no sense.
I just think you have a leg up on most of us b/c you have a brother at Duke right now. Recruited athletes (most of whom go ED) aren’t hanging around CC for info on whether they’ll get in. They already know it. So, when you get to the students with decent ECs and test scores that are in the top half of last year’s accepted students, it’s a crap shoot.
@SlimJim005 yeah true. im hoping it gives me a boost but it is not as huge of an impact as u think
Hey guys I haven’t been contacted for an interview yet, and I guess it’s because I’m an international student. But I’d like to ask how many days after your submission were you contacted for your interview?
@Alex90627 I havn’t yet either and I live in California, so I wouldn’t worry about it. They have a lot of people they need to get through.
Has anyone been able to submit their first quarter grade report? My counselor said he submitted it through optional report on common app but it still shows an X on my portal.
My son’s counselor submitted it through common app and it shows downloaded but the portal doesnt show it there. I I
I assume if it was downloaded they have it and have just not updated as yet.
pretty good! i think it well
my counselor submitted all my informations
Any advice for interviews? Mine is next week, so I could use any bit of advice that I can get
should I be concerned?? I still didn’t get an interview. maybe it’s cause my area is heavily populated w duke ed applicants but idk
I haven’t either. I submitted on the 27th and know someone who submitted super early. They are a really bad applicant and they had their interview 2 days ago. I’m gonna call the alumni office tomorrow to see whats up.
We live in NC and our daughter did not apply ED, but did apply early enough to request an interview. She did not receive an interview, so instead she submitted an additional recommendation. It all worked out in the end, she was accepted and now happily attends. If you live in an area where there are not a lot of alumni volunteers, you may not get one, or, alternatively, if like us, the number of applications far outweighs the number of volunteers due to the amount of activity from that state, you may not get one then either. I would not worry about it. They even state on their website “Your chances of admission won’t be affected adversely if we are unable to offer you an interview, nor will they be affected if you choose not to send an extra recommendation”.
^ Same experience from Northeast.
It should show your SAT score and the date verified, just like the ACT score.
@londontipton Check your common or coalition app under “Recommenders”, and if it shows “downloaded” and a date, then it should show up on the Duke portal.
@Alex90627 Submitted Sunday and email from interviewer the following Friday. Probably depends on your area.
@HelpfulHelper If your common app shows “downloaded” with a date under “Optional Report”, then Duke will get it.
I haven’t gotten my interview yet either from the Northeast
