Duke ED Rescind over Grades

Hello, I got into Duke ED for the Fall of 2023. My senior 2nd semester grades include a C in Calc and 2 B’s, Physics and Spanish, with 2 A’s. I wanted to know if I should email the admissions office, or if it could get me rescinded. Thanks!

This is an example where nothing good will come out of being proactive with Duke. If they want further information about your decline in grades, they’ll let you know. And they will notice, so you’re not getting in front of anything by contacting them.

Any effort put into crafting a letter to Duke is better spent these last few weeks on improving your grades. Or at least preventing further deterioration.

But I don’t believe you have cause for worry

Let Duke know. They will know in any case when they get your transcript. It’s better to email them now.

I 100% agree with @skieurope. No reason to do anything.

As a general rule (every school is different), in terms of grades, one should avoid multiple C’s as well as any D’s and F’s. Just work hard and be sure things don’t slip further.

Congrats on Duke.

Agreed. In certain situations, it’s best not to be proactive. This is definitely one of them.

At ED Blue Devil Days in January 2020, the dean specifically addressed the “elephant in the room” - what grades will get me rescinded. He said then - a single C won’t get you rescinded - but below that is a problem.

No, the bigger issue is why you would make such a comment. Clearly Duke admissions don’t share your PoV.

Nah, the original poster might have a case of senioritis. Or maybe just ran into some course material that had ramped up in intensity, in which case the C in Calc and the B in Physics will hold them in good stead as they get ready for college.

Once the hay is in the barn, the farmer should be allowed to take a deep breath.

Or maybe the OP is a history major (or similar) in which case a less than stellar performance in calc and physics won’t make one whit of difference and says absolutely nothing about their ability to excel at Duke.
