Question about rescinded admissions...

Not that I'm planning on getting my admission rescinded by any means, but just in case...
If Duke requires that we withdraw all of our other apps after getting in ED,and they "routinely re-evaluate" any applicant with a grade of C or lower in their final semester, what happens if your admission is rescinded at that point? Are you just left with no colleges to go to?

I was just thinking about that the other day, and it kind of freaked me out, seeing as I'm struggling to keep up a B in AP Physics C.

I don't think that Physics grade is going to be a problem. I think they have the grade policy so that people who EDed don't just keel over and die or vegetate or something and drop their gpa from like 3.8 to 1.2.

As long as you are trying and you didn't fail it and it's not across the board Ds and Fs I don't think you'll have much to worry about.

Yeah. I think I just made a C in AP Psychology this semester.

just relax and calm down...you're not going to fail out of all your classes, and a C will not make Duke turn around and kick you out. it's one C. You're not failing out of all your classes (hopefully). Physics may not be your "thing" and that's ok. Colleges understand. You're challenging yourself, you already got in (congrats by the way). just work hard NOT to fail out of physics (D or F).

You've at least already gotten in. I applied RD so I won't know for a while...

I'm not panicked or anything, lol actually I'm far from it. I'm looking forward to relaxing and enjoying the rest of the year. It's just something I was wondering about...more of a "what if" question than an "OMG this is totally gonna happen to me helppppp!"

lol, sorry then, my mistake...

well, purely from a "what if" perspective, I'd say it would be pretty funny if that happened :)

jrock07, no problem
SBR...yes, as long as it doesn't happen to me :)

i dunno but i got this deep hatred towards you EDers. Maybe it's cuse i didnt do ED.
or perhaps it's cuse i know you'll be enjoying the rest of your senior year while i'm stressing and stressing over which of the two dozen colleges i applied to will accept me.

jk, btw....i dont hate you.
it's mostly envy.

On another note, what about a police run-in for underage drinking or use of marijuana. Is that enough to get rescinded? I'm just curious how strict they are on this, it is not an issue for me anyways.

yeah i think a C in AP physics won't get you rescinded. but don't get more than one C. Colleges know that we've worked our asses off all three years of high school and deserve to enjoy senior year... but just make sure you're not failing and such. :)

Finesse- Try applying to Duke ED and getting deferred. In that case, there are a lot of EDers (especially on this board) who are all excited because they know what they're doing next year, and you're sitting there in a panic because you're not sure if your #1 school will let you in during RD or not.

Luckily, I'm sitting here on winter break during my sophomore year at Duke, so I'd say it turned out alright. :)

Yes andrew it will cause a rescinding.

My uncle, a lawyer in Phoenix, AZ, represented this kid who was arrested for DUI coming home from a New Year's party. This kid was accepted ED to Yale and had that taken away from him. He was a brght guy, obviously, and now he dosen't get to go to college because of some dumbass move he made.

So stay out of trouble.

Damn, what if driving isn't involved? Any citation you think?

I would think so. You have to report any changes in your legal status, so imagine calling up the Duke admissions office and trying to tell them you have been arrested for underage drinking or marijuana possesion.

Duke is in the fortunate situation of being able to look at a great number of highly qualified students to form a class. The liklihood that they would choose to rescind admission to someone who showed a very recent, significant lapse in judgment could be pretty high...

Yeah you're probably right.

wait, bluedevil1027...so the kid who was accepted to Yale didn't have a college to go to at all?

He possibly ended up at one of his state schools (U of A or ASU), but the reality of it is not many places are willing to accept a kid with DUI on his record.

I'm not too sure of what actually happened regarding where he ended up; I'm going out to Phoenix on Saturday and I'll be sure to ask....
