Duke interviews

There is a time limit to be offer an interview at Duke.. and today is the limit! my D never got contacted despite the fact that we live in a big city... i don't know what to think about that? 3 of her friends in the same HS got an interview....

its just coincidence that your daugter didnt get an interview, doesnt mean that she isn't a qualified applicant or that she has any less of a chance than the other girls that DID get interviews. With the huge amount of applicants this year, some people will just not get an interview. In these cases, the lack of an interview will NOT affect their chance of admission at all. The interview is basically just a chance for the student to learn more about Duke and ask questions. The interviewer tries to sell Duke to the applicant in hopes they will attend if accepted. The role in admissions is very small. (The interviewer writes a brief recccomendation telling about the student. The committee reads it, but if the applicant did not have an interview it is not considered, and doesnt help much at all even if the reccomendation is stellar)

I live within an hour of Duke's campus and was not granted an interview when i applied early decision. I experienced the same stress you did and even called admissions asking to please be granted an interview. They explained the randomness of the interviews and ensured me that they were not a signigicant part of the application. I was accepted without the interview so your daughter doesnt need to worry. The interviews are random and will not hinder her chances of being admitted.

I don't understand either...I submitted by Dec. 10th, and I live in a big city.

If I haven't heard by today, it means I won't get one?

I thought that if you submitted by the 10th you were pretty much gaurenteed one, especially if you live in a place with lots of alumni

no, your not guaranteed. I submitted my application before the supposed interview deadline and did not get one, despite living nearby campus. Regardless, the interview wont affect your chances of admission as i noted in my above post.
