Duke Lacrosse Players face gang rape allegations

What I am arguing is that in a situation like that you really don't know who is there or not
When I gave birth to my daughter- I couldn't have told you how many people were in the room- it could have been 10 or 100
I have also been raped and my focus was elsewhere- I couldn't have told you details of the room I was in, let alone how many people are in the room.
Considering that this woman may have been under the influence of even a drink or two of alcohol, which wouldn't be surprising considering that she was a college student just trying to earn some money by "dancing" for men, I don't think that it is unreasonable to have all the players tested
Victims have changed stories in the past- it just seems odd to have all players tested but one

and as such you are saying that the law should opine who knows/knew? I understand your wish but the alleged victim has made a statement and I think that is what determines. One doesn't know if the lone wolf will be tested in the future.

This is a heinous act and even pending conviction of a crime the already disclosed facts should be sufficient for immediate suspension of all the players present from the team.

You mean toss the season? Horrors.

It is only lacrosse. No offense but I find the sport to be overly preppy and boring.

so is this just an east coast game or what?
I know that some schools around here have club lax teams but 90% of the players look like they are from NY/NJ( or MD)

and so if this team had been Ultimate Frisbee the horror would have been less?

Very much east coast and generally much bigger at the elite schools and prep schools.

Who rules at Duke The President of the University or the Athletic Director?

<a href="http://dukeobsrvr.livejournal.com/5955.html?thread=161347#t161347%5B/url%5D">http://dukeobsrvr.livejournal.com/5955.html?thread=161347#t161347</a></p>

which includes this:

I live in Edens and I can tell you that the still do. They pee all over the buildings throw bottles out windows and harrass girls living in their buildings. Some of them even turn over common room furniture almost everyday just so that the housekeeping staff has to correct it in the morning. Something needs to be done to help teach these guys that they live in a community and that their actions are extremely destructive to not only property, but many people's feeling of security in their own room.

I am curious about the race of the housekeepers. I'm wondering whether the egregiously disorderly behavior that includes urinating on elevators indicates a gross disrespect for women of color -- the kind of gross disrespect also reflected in the alleged rape.I also am wondering why the university didn't kick out the perp who were so disruptive in dorms. Such behavior is simply unacceptable.

Interestingly, most if not all of the team is from the North. Consequently, any racial implications are probably not due to Duke's being in the South, but is due to the elitist/classist/racist/condescending perspective about URMs that sometimes is reflected even here on CC by privileged white people from all over the country.

Lacrosse is huge in Texas, too.

Lacrosse is pretty big in michigan.

Link to a list of the players and their hometowns: <a href="http://www.deadspin.com/sports/lacrosse/duke-lacrosse-team-on-the-brink-163424.php%5B/url%5D">http://www.deadspin.com/sports/lacrosse/duke-lacrosse-team-on-the-brink-163424.php</a></p>

Two are from Tex. A few are from Virginia and Md. About 15 are from NY with several others from NJ.

Keep in mind most of these athletes are no where near the caliber of regular Duke students. If not for their athletic talent, most of them would be studying in 3rd-tier schools. In fact, the average SAT for Duke basketball players was only 900s few years ago.

If the players have low SAT scores, that wouldn't bother me that much. Their having low characters, however, does. I do wonder whether Duke overlooked major high school behavior problems in order to create a winning team.

Kind of ironic that it's sexual assault prevention week on campus.

Minority students admit weekend coming up.

The Duke lacrosse players would NOT wind up at 3rd tier schools. I am as horrified by this incident as anyone, but these boys are not sub-par students. Yes, they DO get some admissions help as recruits, but Duke still expects 1200-1250 SAT. Look at the schools these kids are coming from? Not exactly the same as the basketball team. Get real. Now, the moral character is a different story- but we can not even judge THAT for the whole team at this point.

They cancelled two upcoming lacrosse games already...on the right track...AND Georgetown won by default:-)

Also, can you all only imagine if this was oh say JJ Reddick or Sheldon Williams? I bet they would get a slap on the wrist. Just a thought...
