 You really think any school is going to respond to confirmation of a gang-rape with a slap on the wrist?

There is no confirmation, and until there is, yes, I think some schools would for their STAR athletes! UT did!!!

typical CC to start talking about the players SAT scores. omg. :(

Didn't Colorado try to cover up rape by the football team a few years ago? Until they were pressured to actually take some action, that is.

Actually I think the story was that the recruiters were hiring strippers to perform at parties for the prospective recruits. I could be wrong though.

It was both. Some coed guests at a recruiting party said they were raped. CU put up a stiff front. Ended up costing the CU pres her job.

the best part is that duke has a #1 lacrosse program, for this kind of behavior, they deserve to lose that whole team.

damn. duke just got a big punch in the face. i wonder how the admissions is gonna look next year.

Source: Two Duke Lacrosse Players Indicted

DURHAM, N.C. — A grand jury issued sealed indictments Monday against two members of the Duke University lacrosse team in connection with allegations that a stripper was raped last month at a team party, a source close to the case told The Associated Press.

The source, speaking on condition of anonymity because the grand jury proceedings are secret, said he did not know which players on the 47-member team were indicted.

The grand jury adjourned around 2 p.m. Monday, handing up indictments a short time later to Superior Court Judge Ronald Stephens. A filing at the courthouse said the judge had sealed at least one indictment, citing a state law that allows an indictment to be "kept secret until the defendant is arrested or appears before the court."

A 27-year-old black woman told police she was attacked March 13 by three white men in a bathroom at a party held by the lacrosse team.

The racially charged allegations have led to near daily protest rallies. The school canceled the highly ranked team's season and accepted the resignation of coach Mike Pressler after the release of a vulgar and graphic e-mail that was sent by a team member shortly after the alleged assault.

So the allegations have now been confirmed with two indictments...I wonder if this will negatively affect Duke University next year or not...it may well be forgotten. They should probably be sanctioned by the NCAA and stripped of a few athletic scholarships for the lacrosse team, to say the least.

I think they're innocent.

Um, what? Indictments are far from confirmation of allegations. It just means the grand jury thinks it's fair to give the prosecution a chance to try and prove the charges in a trial.

Another Kobe trial? What happened to the DNA evidence that said none of the player were involved?

"So the allegations have now been confirmed with two indictments"

...*** are you talking about? An indictment doesn't confirm anything... Just because the media doesn't believe in the judicial system doesn't give you the right to jump to conclusions. The DA has chosen to go forward with prosecution against two students... this is no where near a verdict of guilty... all it means is the DA didn't drop the case before charges were filed which basically wasn't going to happen no matter what.

So far the evidence is:

-She says she was raped in the bathroom by 3 white lacrosse players and 4 of her fake fingernails were ripped off when she was scratching at one of their arms to escape (these were found at the crime scene).
-Initial medical examinations showed "evidence consistant with rape" (There haven't been specifics... she had bruises and such idk if there was any check as to evidence of penetration and whatnot and even if there was the times of such things cant be concluded)

-Time Stamped pictures of her arriving and already having the bruises and such
-Time Stamped pictures of her leaving that didnt agree fully with her description
-No DNA evidence found in/on her from ANY player on the team... None of her DNA found in the bathroom... None of any of the players' DNA found on the fake fingernails

Doesn't sound like proven beyond a shadow of a doubt guilty yet to me. Though this could eventually become the final outcome it is looking like a hard sell for the DA. Of course, the lacrosse players could be found completely innocent and it would just be described as another example of the judicial conspiracy against african americans and in favor of rich white people.

Ahh well... horrible situation... I just ask everyone not to jump to conclusions one way or the other.

Thats really sick, why are sports teams allowed to hire exotic dancers in the first place? Isn't there any kind of security on campus?

bigU212,

I agree, why are sports teams of any kind hiring exotic dancers. All varsity athletes should know that whatever they do will cast a blemish on their schools reputation. Whether or not they are guilty, I believe that this behavior must be examined by the university.
