Duke Rescinding Admissions

So I currently have a 4.0(Straight A's). If second semester, I get something like 4 A's and 3 B's would I get a warning letter or even get my offer rescinded?

No, why would Duke go to all this trouble to admit someone and then kick them to the curb for a couple of B’s? If you start getting straight D’s then things might change.

SBR: I’m worried I might have made Duke angry because I applied for financial aid after I was accepted so they might try to find any reason to rescind my admissions?

Doubtful, AFAIK, the financial aid office doesn’t talk to the admissions office at all unless you are an international student. If you are, you wouldn’t have been able to apply for FA after the application deadline anyway.

Hahahaha, I went from a 4.0 to 3.5 senior year, had 50 absences and didn’t even show up to my graduation. Nothing happened.

So nooo, you’re fine. Duke likes you enough.

^
Our school used to allow “unlimited absences” but now it’s limited to 21 per year.
:/

Joehan,

First of all Duke is need blind and so there is NO WAY they would not want you to apply for financial aid now that you are in. I have a student who had this very same concern after having gotten into Vanderbilt ED. I finally called Vandy just to settle his nerves (even tho I knew the answer.) They assured me that it is fine to apply for financial aid after having gotten in ED after having checked the not- applying-for-financial-aid-button on the common app!! NOT ONLY is it OK, but they WANT everyone to apply for aid. Duke has the same policy. Also about your grades…I had a student two years ago who got in ED with all A’s. His senior second semester he had more than half Bs! No comment from Duke. A C might have warranted a comment? I wonder… Now, his freshman friend who had also gotten in ED ended up with a drinking suspension from his high school second semester. Duke contacted him and scared him, but he also was fine and is now an upstanding student at Duke. Don’t mess up-- no C’s. Don’t drink! Don’t steal or get arrested. DON’T CHEAT… you’ll be fine. You know what I just realized is happening to you? It’s a common phenomenon. Once kids get in ED to their dream school, they go through this totally anti-climactic phase when the school ignores you until the RDs get in too. It’s universal. Both my own boys got in ED at their schools. Lots of hoopla the 2nd week in December then NOTHING for MONTHS!!! It was awful. It’s normal that all that energy you expended applying has to go somewhere-- so you start to imagine that your offer will be rescinded. Put your energies in your school work and also in applying for outside local scholarships in your city or town. You’re into Duke. You are as good as there. Fight Blue Devils Fight…Fight for Duke and the Blue and White…GO DEVILS!!! ( Learn the fight song.)

Duke has specifically said in the past that only a grade of C or lower will even merit review by admissions. And even a C will not result in any automatic rescinding of the offer. You might get a warning though with a lot of C’s

No hahaha. Relax and enjoy the rest of senior year!
