Anybody care to critique them? I have both the Why Duke and research experience essays.

Also, how long usually are people's responses to these? It says limit it to "one or two paragraphs" but what if you really want to attend Duke and you end up writing two huge paragraphs? Would that annoy the adcoms?

heh, my why duke essay (for engineering) was a whole page, single spaced. I would assume that it is still fine, so long as your paragraphs are in fact still paragraphs, not tons of random ideas crammed together so that you meet their paragraph requirements.

If you pm me, I can read your essays, but I am a current senior and Duke applicant, so if you'd rather somebody else read it, I understand.

I'm a senior so you might not want to PM it, but I was an ED applicant so mine's all done (thank god!). If you want me to check it though I'll be happy to provide feedback (:

As for the length, try to imagine what they're trying to get out of the essay. They're only asking for 1-2 paragraphs, so they might not want you to go TOO deep in this particular essay. I did: paragraph 1--what I did, paragraph 2--how it affected me. Each was short, total of about 1 pg double spaced.
