In sum, Duke is way better for undergrads than Cal.

Look like foolish?

At any rate, I hardly think that Duke would be substantially behind. I'll say it again: they're both superb universities, in numerous departments. Don't bother ranking. (I think vangie was just putting that out there, though...)

"In sum, Duke is way better for undergrads than Cal."

Nonsequitur much?

thethoughtprincess, you so far haven't been able to support your claim that Duke is better than Cal, even for undergrad. Your data is irrelevant and biased. Frankly, I'm sick of hearing your opinion (and just that, opinion) again and again "Duke's better," without any sort of true support. Just stop until you have something substantial.

Yeah, I just caught that. I had originally typed "look like an idiot," but I changed it so it wouldn't be rude. Unfortunatly, I missed a word. I guess I look "like foolish." :p

Why you guys still arguing...I said Duke for undergrad and berkeley for grad that's it period.
I little question to the creator of this thread..Were you accepted at both schools? If not, you shouldn't be worried about which one to choose.

This Mary McGregor song is for all bickering duke lovers and Berkeley lovers

Torn between two schools~~
Feelin like a fool~~
Loving both of you is breaking all the rules~~

Still looking like foolish LOL

“*Well, most people with the luxury of choosing between Cal and Harvard choose Harvard. That's not opinion. That's just a fact.

Even when it comes to something like engineering, graduating with a Harvard College degree is more desirable. Sakky has made extensive and consistent comments as to "why" this is the case.*”

I don’t believe this. But this is for another thread.

“i] when was i "confident" or when did i "recommend" Duke's biology program over Cal's?*”

You don’t? Then that’s good. This is just what I’ve always wanted to know from you because this statement would help me refute anyone who claims Duke is > than Berkeley for undergrad.

Now I’m done with you.

of course i don't expect you to understand that level of nuance since you are like a blind pro-Cal fanatic enraged with sound and fury.

Funny because this is exactly what I think about you too.

Don't be bitter.

I’m not and I won’t. Why should I be? I’m not even a Berkeley student or alumna…

Again, I’m done with you. You just made my point. Duke could not be a more recommendable school if Berkeley is the other choice.

“Program rank is irrelevant. A great majority of Stanford engineers don't even go into engineering. They go either go into management/ business or professional/ graduate school and the top undergrad programs according to USNEWS shine at placing undergrads into the next phase of their life in a better way. Cal students never seem to understand this. My best friend was a History major and is now a venture capitalist, do you think the History "program rank" mattered? Nope, what mattered was Dartmouth college. that's the bottom line. too many people go into places like Cal and get stuck in "programs" when their Ivy (and duke, etc) counterparts can major in anything and then do anything. Publics just don't get this.”

What??! Is this the next level slapstick? Hahaha...

So you study engineering with the hope to go into business after 4 years? Do you know someone who majored history then later worked in a construction firm as a civil engineer or as an architect? This is really funny to the next level.

What about this: major premed and teach history/literature after 4 years. LoL………

"In sum, Duke is way better for undergrads than Cal."

The OP wants to major Biology so let's talk about the BS Biology at Berkeley and at Duke. Talking about Berkeley as a whole is or Duke as a whole then draw up a conclusion base on it is illogical.

Sorry, patete00, I know you're kind and all, but I'm still far from being convinced that Duke is better then Berkeley for undergrad especially if we talk about Bilogy and physical sciences. As for grad school, Berkeley by a mile...

At the end of the day, both are excellent and elite schools. When it comes to medical school or grad school, they take much more into account than just small differences in what school you went too.

Don't you feel a little sarcasm in the air!!

I didn't know you were a girl.

O no chivalry is dead!!! Have some manner/respect/kindness?. (o OO o) oink oink

a) Berkeley is a great school, so is duke.
b) For undergrad biology majors, it?s a wash.
c) For grad school, Berkeley all the way

All I see is a pig that I like to roast over a slow fire

All I have to say with my very first post is that the Bay Area
is amazing.

I would choose Berkeley.

The NY Times chart is based on predictions made from a survey of students at prep schools...real cross admit data released by admissions from Cornell and Duke (the only two I've seen released) show how students actually choose each school. Duke looks 70-80% of cross applicants with HYPSM, is 50/50 with Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, and Penn, and wins 75% with JHU, NU, and Georgetown. Thats real data, not predictions based on a flawed survey.
