Which is harder to get into UNC Honors oos or Duke?

I think the more important question is which basketball team is better. And the obvious answer is UNC's.

=P

I wonder if UNC Honors is that hard to get into for an oos student considering the small amount of oos students that get into UNC to begin with. There is probably a greater possibility of those students getting into Honors - percentage wise - than in state students. However, consider, what is the advantage here? Anyone can apply after a year to get into the UNC Honors program or a student could accept admittance to Duke and be guaranteed to be surrounded by "Honors" level students everyday all the time.

foreverblue, yeah that sounds true

I was just wondering cause I got into unc honors oos, and I'm hoping this means I have a chance at Duke, which I like better!!

The UNC Honors program just expanded. Even so, I believe only 2-4% of those who apply to UNC are invited into the Honors program upon admission.

So, numbers-wise, it would seem that UNC Honors is more "selective" -- but that doesn't necessarily make it "better."

UNC w/ Honors and Duke are going to have very different strengths. For North Carolina residents, for example, UNC is going to be extraordinarily less expensive.

In terms of academics, UNC Honors allows you to have smaller intro-level classes than you would have even at Duke. But you're still going to be taking mostly "normal" UNC classes in your undergraduate career!

At the end of the day, UNC Honors is great but it doesn't fundamentally change your experience. So you need to be comparing UNC as a whole (including the fact that you'll have access to Honors classes) to Duke as a whole.

They're very different campuses, with different cultures, and different strengths.

On the basis of academics, I'd choose Duke. On the basis of quality of life, I'd choose UNC. For many families, cost may be a deciding factor - just because the difference between UNC in-state and Duke is just so huge.

ThoughtProvoking, just curious: why do you say UNC's quality of life is better than Duke's?
