^If it were me, I would have never had the courage to choose Duke over Princeton (nevermind Harvard or Yale) haha. I say courage because I would probably force myself to go because of the prestige even though Duke is almost a perfect fit for me. There, I admitted it. I’m on the waitlist at Princeton, but it doesn’t seem like I’ll get off since they already notified the first wave… perhaps it will turn out for the better. Well, see you in the fall, Anon :)

Anonymous, my dear friend, I am SO incredibly happy that we will be going to school together.

Prof101, you’re wrong. I got off Harvard’s waitlist, and I’m still going to Duke. It’s my true fit, and I’m about as competitive as they come. I don’t want to go to a stuffy, cold, extracurricularly-obsessed school for four years. Duke’s extracurriculars are just as good as Harvard’s, and yet Duke students still value their academics more. Harvard students usually do not. It is arrogant to say that going to: UChicago instead of Yale, Duke instead of Harvard, Columbia instead of Princeton, Rice instead of MIT, WashU instead of Stanford, etc. is lowering your standards.

It is not.

USNAgolden2014 - Who knew we’d go to school together? Hahaha, you did, actually. I was being pessimistic and didn’t think I’d get off the waitlist. Dude, so much has changed. Remember March 31st/April 1st when I was depressed about Duke and you were depressed about Harvard?

Everything worked out perfectly. :)

This is news. No body on the Harvard board mentioned that they got off the waitlist. Maybe you should go to their board to share the news with the waitlistee there.

Haha that is weird. well it was all fate. made you appreciate duke that much more well I really admire you, and you are definitely one of the most talented people here on CC. you’ll do great things I’m sure!

Of course. Duke loses all but 3% of cross-admits to Harvard. I didn’t say that your opinion wasn’t the majority viewpoint. I’m saying you shouldn’t gawk at her decision, especially when she backs it up with legitimate reasons.

Same. even if I felt I /should/ go to duke, I would feel too guilty to turn down HYP. which is why Anonymous is all the more impressive

I am sure that you guys will do just fine at Duke.

wow. me, i’d lean a bit more towards prestige, so I really admire how u guys can just turn down HYP. i really need to get over my minor depression now lol. hopefully i will see u guys next year. go duke!

btw, this might not be the right place for this, but are u guys all considering focus?

Wow, snowy, USNA and anon, I remember you guys from the Stanford SCEA thread. Looks like there will be a few of us a Duke, then!

I have a friend who chose Duke over Harvard. Didn’t get a merit scholarship at Duke either. Graduated summa cum laude from Duke, had at least two papers published in prestigious scientific journals as an undergrad as the FIRST AUTHOR, and got a degree in BME. Now working for one of the MBB consulting firms (i.e. for those not into consulting, one of the top 3; widely considered #1 actually but I didn’t want to be too specific…). She is going to Harvard for her MBA (see how that choice went full circle? ). I don’t really know how her professional career could possibly be any more successful. Picked Duke because thought it was a better fit. Choosing Duke over Harvard certainly is NOT the norm, but going to Duke will not close any doors for you. If you are a person that will succeed at Duke, you would be just as successful at Harvard and vice versa, and the grad programs/companies will recruit you in pretty much the same manner. (I’ll admit that Harvard has higher sheer numbers going to Harvard law and the top finance/consulting firms though. But Duke is no slouch). For those into high profile DI sports and a lot of school spirit in particular, Duke has a lot more appeal than Ivy League counterparts. The Harvard v. Yale game is amazing, I’ve heard, but it’s just once a year and is pretty much just for bragging rights as a national championship is certainly not on the line…obviously, sports is the only difference, but it’s one of the more obvious ones.

Did all of you guys that got off of the waitlist send in extra supplementary materials?

I didn’t send in any supplementary materials.

AGAIN:

Hey everyone,

My question will concern the regional aspect of the waitlist process. I’m referring to those who got off the waitlist now: Are you all from the United States? I am an international student applying for financial aid. I’ve been waitlisted and am anxious about the decision. Hearing that you’ve all received calls and/or emails giving the good news, I started to feel even more anxious as I really want to be a Duke student next fall. (No offense, I am happy for you but I’d rather see that you were not accepted. )

I am an international student who just got off the waitlist.
No, I didn’t apply for financial aid.
Hope that helps. Good luck!

Where are you from? The reason I’m asking this is obviously to keep track of the regions that the admissions office is now going through to accept students off the waitlist… Oh, then it’s bad news for me since I was telling myself that it’s just the US citizens that they are taking off the waitlist. Now I know… Anyhow, look forward to hearing your reply…

My daughter just got accepted off the Trinity waitlist, and she accepted immediately! Good luck to all you others who are hoping for the same.

i got a call today, i am off the waitlist !!!
i am from texas, so they may be notifying students based on the regions

I hope so… I really think that they are going region by region because most of the students who got off the waitlist are US citizens or residents (for some both of course! :))

I hope international students’ turn will also come…

Anyone gotoff Duke list from NJ, NY area? Thanks,

What about NC area? Anyone yet?

yeah can those accepted off the waitlist tell us which stay they live in? kthanks
