I just wanted to know if it was at all possible that I could get into Duke with a 30 on the math ACT for biomedical engineering. I got a 35 in English and reading, and a 36 in science (34 composite). Will my 760 on math on the SATs balance out this weak score on the ACT? I also got a 5 in AP Calc AB. I believe that the rest of my application is strong (4.36 GPA, 6th in the class, involved in many volunteer/extracurricular activities, female in engineering, National merit commended, etc.) Any insight would be appreciated.
I would say that the Math SAT and your AP score should compensate. That’s one reason I suggest that students take both the ACT and SAT, wherever possible: they may perform better on some segments of one test than on the other, even if their composite scores are comparable. I think you have ample evidence to prove that you can perform well in any rigorous, quantitative course. Duke is a reach for everyone, nevertheless.
@woogzmama thanks! I think it’s worth it for me to at least apply and see what happens.
