Dumbledore is gay

I don't think anyone in this thread has a problem with homosexuals or homosexuality (although I can only speak for myself on this count). I think the main gripe is that, since Rowling made no allusion to Dumbledore's sexuality in the books, her sudden announcement does not seem to have any clear objective with regard to enhancing the depth of her world or anything of that nature. It seems to me that her primary reason for this disclosure is to get a nod of approval from self-styled progressives who will be thrilled at the idea of a gay character, any gay character, in such a high-profile children's series.

but in her defense, in the part where she was describing his relationship with that other genius wizard guy, for a split second, I was thinking: "Are they Gay?"...other than that, there was no mention of their sexuality in any books.

Crealo - "pleasing" them would get her alot more readers, and alot more money. It's all about the money. She may in fact think he's gay, but each reader should deduce his/her own conclusions about any character in the book. The thorough descriptions on the characters are there for people to form their own notions and ideas, not for her to impose her own on others.

Besides, all I said was that I don't see Dumbledore's character as gay. My perception of the guy, which I formed throughout the seven books, just won't fit homosexuality in it.

And even if she said it because she thought it was good PR, there's nothing wrong with trying to sell your product in whatever way you see will get you the biggest profit.

Here's an article where JK Rowling explains why she didn't reveal Dumbledore's sexuality earlier.

Why is this so controversial? It was just a comment about her own interpretation of the book in response to a question.
