E-mail Scanned Tax Documents? Crazy or OK?

Most schools that don't have IDOC require that the 1040, 1099s, and W-2s be sent to the financial aid office via mail, fax, or email. E-mailing scanned copies is the easiest, but man it scares me to have my personal financial information sitting in some general inbox (finaid@xyz.edu). What do you all think?

So is faxing. The safest is by Certified Mail.

Oh-oh, I’d better keep my fingers crossed. I already sent my revision for CSS Profile by email. I will be more cautious next time.

No, no, no! Never send anything with confidential information over email. Think of email as a postcard. Anyone can read it.
