Ever since I got over a 2000 on my SATs, I've been getting e-mails from colleges like University of Penn and Emory! These are my DREAM schools and they give me the standard "Nicole, you are an excellent student blah blah blah we would like you to apply blah blah"

Does it mean anything, like that I have a chance of getting in now that Im getting the email from them? Should I sign up for the mailing list to confirm im interested? my dream is to get into UPenn and they did email me! do they email EVERYONE?

College Board gives them lists of people who score over a certain amount so admissions offices can use them to attract applicants. So the e-mails are sent to everyone over a certain score. So no, it doesn’t really mean much other than you have an SAT score they could consider in-range. If Penn is your top choice, you’ll defs want to do ED, but you’ll want to bring that score to AT LEAST ~2150, 2200+ for a solid score.

I’m afraid they don’t mean very much, nicolexette, except that Penn, Emory, et al., got your email address from the College Board.

My kids got 'em, too. And literally tens of thousands of other high school students.

I don’t mean to tell you that you shouldn’t investigate Emory, Penn, or any of the others, or that you shouldn’t apply if you are about as qualified as the students who go there. But those emails do seem calculated to make you feel way more special and important to the school than you actually are. And they work!
