I just got my acceptance letter from USD today, but it was sort of surprising. It says I was admitted under the Education Opportunity Program (E.O.P.) and lists a number of things I'd have to do in the fall if I choose to go to USD. So I went onto the USD website to find out what this program was.

Here's what their website says:
The University of San Diego is firmly committed to providing opportunities to students interested in attending USD. Each year a limited number of students are admitted to the university as members of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). EOP is designed to assist students who have the potential to succeed, but who without the help of EOP would be unable to realize their academic goals due to cultural, economic or disadvantaged backgrounds.

Now, I don't fall into any of those categories. I live in a very affluent area and my parents make a lot of money. I'm just a white kid from Southern California.

My stats are pretty good too for USD (3.8 gpa, 1800 SAT, lots of honors/AP classes, good EC's, great essays) so I'm not sure how or why I was put into this program. Although USD is one of my safety schools there's a possibility I'd go there if I don't get into my UC of choice, but this program just seems really stupid particulary for someone like me who doesn't need it or really qualify for it.

Anyone ever heard of this????
