E28 or E77

what do freshman engineering majors usually take in the fall semester, E28 or E77?

E77 is no longer offered. An easier E7 is replacing it. That being said, I think either one will be a buttload of work, although E7 is 4 units while E28 is 3 units. Don't let that fool you though...they're more work than an ordinary 3 or 4 unit class. My roommate and some friends took E28 last semester and it killed them. Sometimes they would be up till 4-5 completing assignments. They had a final project that was a lot of work AND a final exam that took 5 hours (normal exams usually don't take more than 2 hours).

I took E77 last semester. Some of the homework assignments easily took over 10 hours to complete each week. I think I probably spent around 30 hours on the second to last homework assignment. I remember I spent maybe 5-7 hours on just one single problem. Programming can get frustrating if your code doesn't work. If you have programming experience, you can skip all the lectures, labs, and discussions (that's what I did), and you'll probably be fine.

Also to consider: E28 is at 8am next semester, which is hard to make.

wow, if it's that much work, i don't think my fall semester courseload will be feasible for me. my planned fall semester classes are: Math 54, Physics 7A, Asian American Studies R2B and E28. do you think this will be manageable for me?

manageable, though it's a good amount of work. E7 was made easier than E77, and it's designed to be an introductory class, so you don't need programming experience (it only helps). if you've taken AP physics, it shouldn't be a problem. be careful of 54...it's pretty theoretical. if you like calculations better, 53 might be better. can't help you with AAS.

thanks! :)
