What is the difference between the Honors program and the Academic Scholars program? Can you be in both? Is one more difficult to get into than the other?
Is hearing in the first wave a good sign to receive good merit scholarship???
Hi all, did you receive an email to notify you that your portal had been updated or did you just happen to check it and find it had changed? My D just checked hers and it still looks the same, not mention of accepted or denied etc.
I was accepted yesterday and got into the honors program! 4.10 W, 3.65 UW. 35 ACT and tons of ec’s (drum major of band, all-state musician, baseball, cross country, math team, orchestra, national honor society, foreign language honor society, etc.). Merit money should come in the mail in a few days, right?
i would like to know as well - how are you all “hearing back” - through the portal, email, snail mail, all the above???
My S just happened to check and was accepted Honors. 4.0/34 OOS from NY.
Found out by just checking the portal- no email yet
We just checked the portal. There was no email or snail mail. The message says that this is the early notification and that they have not published the admissions notifications yet…
Checked the portal and I got in too! 3.5/32 from Michigan.
I have boy/girl twins who are seniors in the Chicago area and who both attended the Summer Scholars program in 2015. Both applied for Engineering, Early Action. D was notified yesterday of admission, S has no update yet. D’s test scores and GPA are a bit higher than S’s but both are well within range of Miami’s acceptance numbers for students applying from their high school, according to Naviance.
Does anyone know if most of the EA admits are historically communicated around now, or do some continue to come through the deadline of February 1?
@bluejay89 I don’t know, but these links may help shed some light for you.

Accepted with honors on the 19th- 32 ACT 1530 CR+M SAT, 4.0 UW academic GPA.
Is it just me or is it odd to everyone else that only super early EA notification people are posting on Miami’s section of CC?
And FWIW, our mail delivery person let me know there’s a snail mail from Miami coming in today’s mail too. So those who didn’t get anything online might want to check snail mail in the next few days depending on where you live. We’re IS.
I agree JumbleTumbles - I also feel sorry for a lot of these kids too. Sounds like a ton of helicopter parents on this board. Kids need time to be kids - from the sounds of things, many of them are probably stressed beyond all belief. My experience with my older kids who have gone to MU shows that these “wonder kids” are often the children who come to campus and go ballistic once they have escaped the pressure cooker of the homestead.
@docanderson39 - just from being involved here on CC for my son, I have seen some posts by parents that scream helicopter parent. But for the most part, I don’t feel most are; Most seem like just involved parenting.
I don’t consider myself a helicopter parent but I do consider myself involved - and it’s by my son’s request. At the beginning of summer, my son started checking out CC & was getting stressed out & depressed by certain college specific threads because of the intensity of the students on them but realized the importance of some of the info that can be garnished. He also realized how much of a time sucker these boards are too! Lol. SOOO much info to cull through for the nuggets of gold. So he actually asked me if I wouldn’t mind being his eyes on cc. Thus, I’m here & involved. I consider his request intelligent because it’s delegation of duties. His time was in short supply but responsibilities were piled high. I don’t consider him asking me to help a way to avoid responsibility but a mature understanding of prioritizing. Even as adults, we delegate all the duties we have so I’m happy to help him with this so he can focus on the stuff only he can do. Does that make sense?
So maybe I’m being too generous in my thinking because of where I’m coming from, but I generally see most of the parents on here as just helping their overtaxed, over stressed, over achievers keep doing what they should be doing as seniors & not spend stupid amounts of time on CC for those nuggets of gold.
Great post @docanderson39 Extremely productive and supportive. Thanks for your contribution to the conversation.
Accepted. 3.4 UW, 33 ACT
Exhibit A “HonoursDad” - best of luck to you. Honours!!! YES!!!
Just got my packet today! Anyone else get into the honors program?
