THIS SUMMER'S ACTIVITIES:
I am interning at the Electrical Engineering Department at UCSB this summer with a Ph.D student to apply Gallium Nitride (a semiconductor) into solar cells.

I am also trying to intern with a UC Santa Barbara economics professor as well. Collecting data and researching on change of income over time for individuals and economic data from many countries around the globe.

Long list, but I hope you guys can read all of it and give me feedback!

Good application. Good leadership. Good awards. What concerns me is that the SAT score seems a little low for the asian applicant. I mean, 25% ish of MIT kids are asian and they drive the profile of average MIT Freshman up.

50% chance for both. You’d probably get into one.

The 2300+ SAT score would help, but I disagree with CC’er, I think that you have a really strong app just as it is. The ECs, GPA, and awards are all very impressive, and I’d say that Caltech = good odds, MIT = reach… I had 3 friends this year go to CalTech with about the same SAT score as you have, so imo its not that big a deal.
Also, why are you randomly taking IB Econ senior year if you arent planning to get a diploma? 0.o Seems a little odd to me…

Yea… Scores is my number one priority right now for sure! Yes I am having my fair sahre of research experience right now over the summer (two internships )

Your stats are incredible… the only advice I have is to retake the SAT and try to get at least one 800… other than that you’re super solid. I would say you’ll get into one, more likely Caltech (I know a kid at my high school who was nothing special who got in and chose SYRACUSE instead).

I am simply stunned.
Excellent GPA. Excellent Extracirriculars. Excellent course load. Excellent test scores.
Your extracirriculars undoubtedely show your passion towards areas that MIT and CIT specialize in.

My friend, I would say you have probably at least a 60-70% chance in both schools. Good luck!
