EA for St. Olaf

I know its a little early for this but EA notification is Feb 1 and I'm a little nervous for my daughter. Please post when you guys start to hear something.
Thanks....

February 1st and nothing...

me either.. but they say a record number of people applied. so it might take longer than expected? makes sense..

We haven't gotten anything either. Oh, well. Looking forward to hearing something soon.

I think I received news mid-February after I applied EA last year.

Good luck, everyone!

Was your date of notification also supposed to be Feb 1? Thanks.

Yes, notification was supposed to be February 1 and when I called yesterday they were still stuffing envelopes. I spoke to Abby in admissions who said "hopefully the letters will go out in tonights mail, you should have it within a week." - Guess February 1 was just a guideline. All my other schools had letters out when promised.

My daughter got her letter today. She was accepted to St. Olaf but the merit scholarship was smaller than we hoped for. Not sure what will happen next. We are still waiting to hear about on campus music auditions and whether she's been accepted for that.

Flyingwoman, where are you located?

I got mine today. Only one day after they said.. Happily got in.. but merit very competitive apparently.. :/

Where are you guys located that received your letters? Are you in Minnesota?

D is waiting still...we are in CA. Good luck for those waitng...congrats to those accepted.

D got in with Merit Money, a very respectable award but not what was expected. I still wonder if they look at the CSS before deciding who gets what merit aid.

I am in MN. D has a friend who was waitlisted. Also no scholarship $ for music for my D which is disappointing since she has done very well at other colleges in that regard. It must be very competitive this year.

Maybe I am just cynical and St. Olaf is not my d's first choice but I truly wish they would not ask for the CSS Profile before awarding scholarships. Although my d was awarded $30,000 over 4 years I really believed she would be in the running for the Buntrock Scholarship. I was told it was based solely on academic performace in high school. I find it hard to believe that there are 150 prospective applicants who had a better academic record than my d. St. Olaf was a safety (although before she spent the night is was her first choice). She has been accepted to schools with much higher standards. I still wonder if they look at the CSS and say, these parents can afford to pay....maybe I am just bitter, or maybe they had hundreds apply with 4.0 grade points who have taken all honors and AP classes and have nearly perfect test scores. I know she was awarded nearly double this amount at "comparable" schools and accepted at better. Oh well, it is what it is, but it would be nice to see the stats of those prospectives in the running for the Buntrock.

Letter came but daughter isn't home to open it. Usually you can tell what's inside by the size of the envelope but this one is medium-sized but has some thickness to it. It is from Admissions and it does have a check mark on the front so it would appear to be an acceptance but can't tell. Darn and my daughter isn't going to be home for a few hours. The suspense is killing me...lol

Same envelope we got, I would assume your d was accepted.

Well, D just opened her letter and was accepted! She's very excited because St. Olaf was her first choice. She absolutely loved her overnight, the classes she attended and the kids. Now about that weather, honey... A little different than California but I think she'll be alright with it.

I got in w/ the presidential scholarship(?) I think.
It was $7500 a year.

I'm waiting on other colleges.

Daviban:

Checked your D's stats from previous post. Her ACT is 30, ergo while her GPA and academic classes are excellent that is what earned her the $7,500 award.

Bunstock Scholars (as a guess) would have the GPA and AP/Honors classes and ACT (or SAT) scores considerably higher than 30.

Now 30 on the ACT is wonderful, but reflect that it is still 30 on a scale that reaches to 36. Many other applicants(undoubtedly) have ACT scores of 35, 34 or 33 .
