EA Notifications

Sorry for the late response here- I heard that bit of information (about how sending the deferral notifications was a mistake) from my guidance counselor earlier today, who
told me that he received an email last night from the BC admissions department explaining what happened. I don’t want to say this is certainly the case, but I definitely trust my guidance counselor. Were there any more deferrals today?

FYI:

On the deferral letter it said more than 5000 students applied. This was expected by the Admissions Office since this is the first year that a supplemental essay was required.

That’s good?

@scottj: Are you connected to BC
admission? Care to clarify if all deferrals have been sent out?

@scottj: Thank you for the analysis. It really does make one more aware of individual aspects of the app he/she can improve.

@collegeproject, I don’t quite understand why the addition of a supplement would be expected in direct connection with an increase in applicants? It seems like it would be quite the opposite or am I misunderstanding your post?

Sorry I just noticed you said 5,000 and typically BC receives 6,000 applicants. I misread the earlier post .

In past years, my children who attended Boston College worked/volunteered in the admissions office. Therefore, much of the information shared here on the forum comes directly from the floor of the admissions office. Second, having been through two successful applications with Boston College including the Honors Program, we have experience with the overall process. Third, since both of my children participated in the Ivy League chase on their way to Linden Lane, most of the discussion here about Ivy vs. New Ivy resonates within my household.

To answer the second point on the deferrals having been sent, I have no additional information other than what has been posted here. Earlier today, bluebayou and I speculated on the reasons for these e-mails having been sent. During that exchange, I speculated that a new on-line system might be in the process of being introduced; little did I know that might actually be part of the root cause.

Are you guys still getting deferred notifications today? Or all these delayed posts from yesterday’s email?

Kinda odd that all high stat deferred people are new to the forum.

Is there any type of indication of the status of their decision on BC’s Agora Portal similar to previous years?

I can understand BC making a mistake and sending out all the deferrals ahead of time, but I don’t understand why, once the mistake was noted, they wouldn’t finish sending out the remaining deferrals right away.

Just wondering if anyone who has not received a deferral email did get an email from a BC student who is majoring in the concentration you put down in you application to the CAS? I got an email like this about a week ago and the student highlighted certain aspects of her BC experience that were particularly enjoyable and has been really helpful in answering questions I have about the specific major. Anyone else get something like this? Should I take it as a good sign?

@omzac - I couldn’t agree more. Even with our personal stakes involved, it just wouldn’t make sense to send a random portion of deferrals out. If so, it would make even less sense to not just write all the deferrals to clear up an already confusing situation. Ugh. Guess well just have to wait and see !

You would think BC would be sensitive enough to finish notifying all the deferrals if only a portion had been notified. I sure hope so!

Exactly as I wrote earlier, if that’s the case, it would be so wrong! Imagine the heartbreak due to all the confusion!

Keeping my fingers crossed…

Two friends who were deferred last yr. got admitted RD and are now very happy BC freshmen. It’s a great school (I spent a few days there and even sat in on classes), and a much tougher admit than many people realize. Good luck to everybody still waiting and to those deferred, keep the faith.

do boston college admissions office know if you went visiting their school or not through the college tours???

also, if i didn’t get email, is that good??? !

sorry for double post **

Registration is necessary for an official tour but visiting the school is not considered in the admissions process: [Campus Visit Registration - Office of Undergraduate Admission - Boston College](<a href=“Admission - Boston College”>Admission - Boston College)
