For those that were admitted Early Action, is anyone planning on going? I am a current student so if anyone has any questions about it, feel free to ask.

I am trying to rearrange my schedule to take my daughter, what’s the day like?

Friday isn’t very important, so don’t feel the need to go to that. I think there’s some sort of talk (it says Philosophy of Education) and then dinner at the (mainly) freshmen dining hall. Though if you get there earlier in the day, you could sit in on a class in your major. The last classes on Friday start at 1:30pm so you’d have to be there by then.
As for Saturday, it depends on your major. Overall, everyone is doing the same things in different orders from probably 9am to 3pm. You’ll have a campus tour run by Blue Key, maybe an intro or something from Father Peter (the President), a talk by the head of your college and maybe department, possibly lab tours, and lunch in a dining hall. I have a more specific engineering one since I am helping with that if you are asking about engineering.

@Joe125 - I wish I was going…but got EA Deferred from Engineering College - Do you think I have a chance for RD?:

joe125,

Hi! I’m an engineering student! What’s the engineering program like for the Early Action Candidates’ Day? I’m trying to decide if I should go or not. Thanks!

Joe125 - my daughter and I are going and will be arriving on Thursday so she can sit in on a class. What is the procedure on Friday, if you know, in general? Is there a check-in area, etc. Thanks.

MassEngine - You definitely have a chance, but you are kind of on the border for both grades and test score. The ECs are good so that should help. You may want to consider sending in an updated transcript after first semester or another recommendation to show you are very interested. I’m not sure if they require you to choose a specific major or not, but the type of engineering might change the difficulty. Chemical is usually the most difficult to get into with Civil being the easiest.

rob2137 - I’ll just go over what I know for Saturday since that is the main day. Based on what I can gather from the email I got (it just tells me times and places of what I have to do), I think everyone is starting in the Pavilion around 9 or 10am probably starting with probably all the majors together - most likely a talk from Father Peter and/or Jay Wright or someone to start things off. Then the colleges should be split up and engineering will have a talk by the Dean - basically it’s about the freshman engineering program at Nova, job statistics, random things like that. Then we will bring everyone to the engineering buildings and give tours of the labs along with individual department talk/demonstrations by the department chair (order of those two is based on major). After those, you’ll have lunch in the dining hall and finish it off with a campus tour.

Woody93 - I am not sure about the procedure or if there is one. I know the Philosophy of Education talk is at 3:30pm in the Villanova Room (which is downstairs in Connelly Center) and that dinner is at 5pm at the Spit (our name for the mainly freshman dining hall on south campus). As for sitting in on a class or whatever, I found this: [Early Action Candidates’ Weekend | Villanova University](http://www1.villanova.edu/villanova/accepted/ea.html)
That might help you figure out things. If you have any problems figuring out who to contact or anything, let me know. I know more about the engineering things, but I could probably find something for the other colleges too.

I’m going Friday for the Honors program event, and staying overnight for Saturday’s events.

Joe125, I believe I met you before lol. Anyways, if anyone has any questions about the sciences, feel free to ask me! You definitely want to attend Candidates weekend. It really helped convince me to attend Villanova.

Hmm, not sure how you even know who I am, but cool. Yeah, it definitely does help being able to get the student perspective. And it is good to have a person from another college to help answer questions about that area.

Hi Joe, thanks for your offer to answer questions.

We are coming in from the Washington, D.C. area, can you recommend a decent/affordable hotel in the area? My son wants to try to attend a class on Friday and we want to be there for the dinner, even if isn’t a big deal. It’s his #1 choice school and going to be a big financial sacrifice so we want to be sure he experiences as much as he can beforehand.

Do parents typically attend with their kids all day on Saturday?

Also, I assume there is an orientation once the students have committed. Do you know what week that typically takes place?

Thanks in advance! My son was accepted to the Arts and Sciences so I know your experience would not mirror his but I appreciate you being here to answer questions for us newbies.

For hotels, my parents have stayed around King of Prussia Mall. It’s about 30 minutes away, but most of the hotels are there and most of them are relatively nice (Though my parents said the Hampton Inn there was crappy so I’d avoid that). There should be around 10 other choices there though.
If you are coming in on Friday, definitely walk around campus and get a feel for the place. If you want to see West Campus (junior apartments, honors building, soccer fields, etc.), they don’t normally take students over there on the tour so that might be a good place to see if you want.
Parents typically attend with their kids, but it’s not necessary. It seems like normally the parents are the ones that typically ask the questions instead of the students.
There’s an orientation that is the four days (or so) before school starts in the fall. It really gets you acclimated to the school before classes start. Looking at the academic calendar, orientation goes August 22nd-25th (Thursday thru Sunday) with classes starting on Monday.

First of all, the King of Prussia Mall is at most ten minutes away from 'Nova. Also, I would honestly consider staying in the city if you have the means/motivation…especially if the prospective student is new to the Philly area. It would be a good chance to take in the city and perhaps get acquainted with SEPTA…it’s around a 20-30 minute train ride from 30th St. Station to Villanova. Just speaking as a Philly native and part-time Villanova student…

That might be worthwhile. And yes, 10-15 minutes without traffic, but mornings and afternoons can be a bit rough with traffic so I said 30 minutes just to be safe. Some of those roads can really back up during rush hour.

We’ve stayed at both [Best Western The Inn at King of Prussia](<a href=“King Of Prussia, PA Hotels – Best Western Plus The Inn”>King Of Prussia, PA Hotels – Best Western Plus The Inn) and [Courtyard Marriott Devon](Hotel in Wayne, PA | Courtyard Philadelphia Devon/Villanova) and would highly recommend either.

As a parent who attended the EA Candidates Day in 2010 – Do Not Miss It!! We were there in a torrential downpour and the day still sold us on the school. Especially valuable are the meetings with Department Chairs and the tour of the dorms. You will LOVE the greeting you get as you enter the Pavilion for the opening program .

My daughter and husband were there in 2010 also and even with the worst rain ever (part of the NJ Turnpike closed due to flooding) she still fell in love with Nova!! I would NOT recommend the DoubleTree by Hilton in King of Prussia (it was not clean and had a bad smell).

I vote for the Radnor Hotel , about 3 minutes to campus, very nice and will save you the 20-30 minute drive to KOP.Sometimes it is pricy for Villanova Event weekends , but most of the time it is $20 -$30 more than KOP chain hotels and money well spent for the convenience.

You will hate the KOP drive on Friday. If you stay in KOP , stay at the Holiday Inn Express , new facility and CLEAN , very important because some others in KOP are dumps. I have not stayed at the Villanova Conference Center but have heard good things and it is very close to campus. KOP is not 10 minutes from campus , even at 2 in The morning.

For breakfast Nudy’s Cafe or Minellas Diner in Wayne , Nudy’s is better but a bit further from campus. Lunch do Christopher’s in Wayne , for dinner Gulliftys in Bryn Mawr or for great steak Sullivan’s in KOP or Flemings in Radnor , you can walk to Flemings from the Radnor Hotel.

PM me if you need any other tips from a parent. BTW , This Forum has needed a student voice , thanks to Joe for his input.

I guess there have been some hotels that have been bad, my parents just may not have run into them since they don’t stay around here very often. I also agree with the suggestions for restaurants and if you want something completely different (that should be for little kids, but college students love it), there’s two restaurants down in Wayne. One specializes in different PB&J sandwiches (with other stuff) and the other is a grilled cheese place. Both are good, but a little different. Though I do highly suggest eating on campus at least once if possible. If anyone wants to eat at times that they aren’t providing meals for you (before the event or later that day/weekend), PM me and I should be able to get you in using guest meals or just saying you are my family.

And not a problem. If anyone has questions that aren’t related to EA Candidates’ Day, please ask away.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Off to make our hotel reservations today!

Amazon Local Deals is running a $6 for $12 worth of food from [Nova Mediterranean Grill](https://local.amazon.com/philadelphia-western-suburbs/B00B2RRDAU) through Sunday. Have not eaten there, but it might be a cheap option for soup and sandwich during your visit.
