Am I allowed to apply early to multiple schools like Tulane and Georgia Tech? I know some early action is restrictive, but I'm not sure about how the whole early action thing works. I visited both schools and they said that some scholarships are only available if one applies early, but I didn't understand how that would work if the early apps are restrictive. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks

Unless it is explicitly stated that the early action apps are restrictive, they are not. If scholarships are available for a restrictive early action program, you may only apply to that college early or give up the scholarship. If the scholarship is for a non-restrictive EA, you may apply to that EA and all others that are not restrictive.

Tulane has both restrictive early action and regular early action. If you’re talking about the Georgia Tech scholarship programs, you can still apply to Tulane regular early action.

@AmaranthineD so I would be able to do early action to multiple schools as long as it is just regular early action?

You have three types of EA colleges. Those with early action that allow you to apply early action and early decision elsewhere (most schools with EA). Those that allow you to apply EA elsewhere but not ED. Those that have single choice early action (SCEA) which prohibit you from applying EA or ED elsewhere although a usual exception is that you can apply to public universities EA.

GTech’s EA is one that allows you to apply EA or ED elsewhere. Check its site for timing because it is true that it has certain scholarships for which you must apply early to be considered. Tulane actually has both regular EA that allows you to apply EA or ED elsewhere and SCEA which prohibits you from applying EA and ED elsewhere, except you can apply to any public universities EA if early application is needed to qualify for any scholarships. Tulane also has scholarships for which you need to apply EA or SCEA to be considered but it is the same scholarships for both so you don’t have to choose SCEA for that purpose.

Thus, you could apply EA to both Tulane and GTech and because GTech fallls within Tulane’s exception, you could apply SCEA to Tulane and EA to Gtech. However, choosing SCEA for Tulane will limit your ability to apply EA to other colleges.

@drusba, thanks for clearing up my early action issue. I will plan on applying to regular early action to both Gtech and Tulane this fall

As long as it’s not single choice early action, you can.
