my S letter came and he got deferred…

…deferral from NH

deferral in CT

deffered in CA… :/

Deferred in PA… knew it :(

hi! I’m an international and I haven’t received a letter (as the school said they would ONLY give out the decision by mail). I received an email though regarding financial aid information for accepted student stoday.

Greetings!

The Office of Financial Aid would like to remind all students who have been accepted for admission to Loyola’s Class of 2015 of some important need-based financial aid application deadlines as well as the notification dates for merit-based scholarship assistance.

Students who have been accepted for admission under Loyola’s Early Action process will be notified of their eligibility for academic scholarship assistance by February 15, 2011 by the Undergraduate Admission Office. All accepted applicants are considered for academic scholarship assistance; a separate application is not required.

Students who wish to be considered for need-based assistance must complete the 2011-12 College Scholarship Service (CSS) PROFILE Application and the 2011-12 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The filing deadline for both forms is February 15, 2011. Information regarding Loyola’s application procedures as well as links to the CSS PROFILE and the FAFSA may be accessed here.

Students who meet the February 15th financial filing deadline will be notified of their eligibility for need-based assistance by March 15, 2011. Successive rounds of financial aid decisions will be made on a weekly basis through the month of April until all federal and institutional financial aid funds available for first-year students have been exhausted.

Colleges and Universities are required to collect your federal tax return information as part of the financial aid application and verification process. In an effort to streamline the collection and processing of your tax documents, Loyola participates in the College Board’s Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC). To learn more about this process, please visit this page.

Financial aid decisions will not be delayed for students who have not submitted tax return information. However, please be aware that the receipt of your tax return information by the IDOC Service and the completion of the verification process may result in a revision in your financial aid eligibility.

If you have any questions concerning the financial aid application procedures, visit us on our website, call 410-617-2576 or 1-800 221-9107, email at financialaid@loyola.edu, or fax 410-617-5149.

Is the letter a sure sign that I’m accepted?

thanks.

Bummer…my son’s application (from NJ) was deferred…does not look good at this point…while others on this thread have offered kind words and suggestions (thank you), the numbers do not lie…according to The Princeton Review book of best colleges we bought (2010 edition), 7,623 applied to Loyola (presumably 2009 year ?) and 69% got in which does not seem like a bad percentage at all…it is interesting that only 20% of those actually agreed to go…BUT…614 were accepted onto the waiting list…ONLY 2% WAS EVENTUALLY ADMITTED FROM THE WAITING LIST…congrats to those who got in…and to those who were deferred, hope you are either one of the lucky ones admitted eventually or you find a really good match somewhere else…regards from the snowed-in Garden State…

It sure does look like the FA office was given your name! Why would the admisisons office give names & emails of declined students to them, to send out that email? That would be cruel & thoughtless, & I don’t read “cruel & thoughtless” in anything Loyola has sent us.

The first sentence refers to Early Action – I think the FA office believes everyone has gotten their letters by now. Only time will tell but it looks like you will eventually be getting good news.

Why don’t you email admissions and let them know you have not received your letter, but you have recieved this.

They need to know two things, to help them do their jobs better in future—one is that the mail to your place is slower than they thought–and the other is that the FA staff is inadvertently stepping on their toes. The AO wants you to get that envelope and open it — it’s part of their marketing; they want you to have that particular exciting experience.

Getting that email from FA is not the way the AO wants you to hear the good news. Help both offices to do their jobs better & let them know it happened.

Sorry you have not heard better news—but I do not regard 2009 data on Loyola to be current enough. Last year was the first since they changed to “University” and revamped their website, mailings, etc-- and they saw their applications shoot up—I think it was a 20% increase for h.s. class of 2010 applicants.

That was probably also due to things like the bump from the Common App & the last year of the Baby Boom’s Boomlet—but they were one of the highest increase schools in the country. So the 2009 numbers are not really up to date even though they are recent.

FROMCALWITHLOVE…sorry to tell you this, but my D got the same email and she is one that was deferred. Again, deferred doesn’t mean denied, but it doesn’t mean accepted either. So I guess it will still be exciting news for you, if you happen to receive the larger envelope.

POPS: Being deferred EA does not mean you’re on the waiting list, it just means your application will be reviewed with the RD pool. People who are waitlisted will find out when the RD decisions come out, and if you are put on the waitlist, you have the option of staying on it or withdrawing your application all together. So that statistic you have does not pertain to you as of now. There is still hope! (:

nothing again today in long island, ny! Anyone else still waiting?

My DS is planning to apply to Loyola EA for the next academic year. So far it’s his first choice.
Some of you have posted your stats, would others mind posting theirs?
DS stats so far:
GPA: 3.4 UW
Possibly not reporting SAT since his results were very bad this first time around.
His high school is a boarding school in the south, and belongs to a consortium that does not offer AP classes. By senior year, he’ll be doing calculus, adv. level chemistry, adv. level English, 4th year of foreign language, etc.
Varsity soccer, Mountain biking team
Honor Council; School guide
Next year hopefully will be one of the lead seniors.
He most likely will get some very good teacher recs.
Also plays violin in the school orchestra and also in the nearby University orchestra.
Dual citizen (USA and other country); and is Asian American but multi-cultural at the same time. Home is outside of the USA

Are these statistics similar to anyone?

Thanks for your input!

Is notification solely in the mail? Or is there a way to check online? I didn’t apply early, but I figured you guys would know

Yes, they only notify you of acceptance by mail. Good luck!
