I don't understand this e-mail I just got...I've already been admitted:

"Congratulations! The Computer Science Department is pleased to offer you early admission to the computer science major at UC Santa Cruz for fall 2009. Only a few, highly qualified applicants have been selected for early freshman admission. We would like to congratulate you on your fine academic record, which has prepared you for admission to computer science. "

Can anyone explain please?

I got the same. (I am an admitted applicant as well) Seems like a screwup.

It means you can enter as an officially declared CS major your first year instead of waiting 2 years and then applying to the department. Most other admits are “Prospective” majors, meaning they haven’t been accepted into a department yet.

Ah I see. Any quirks that we get for being an actual major instead of a pre-major?

I don’t know, my best guess would be access to upper division classes that may otherwise be restricted.

What was your UC GPA? SAT/ACT/etc? I’m debating whether I should try to get early admission into the program or just wait.
