Early Admissions is messing with my head right now???

So i am in high school (10th grade) and i saw that ga tech offers students the chance to skip senior year entirely to attend college. This sounded amazing to me at first, but a few doubts cropped up.

1- are the older undergrads and graduate students jerks? because i don't want one year of hell where i am not even a legal adult to handle it

2- will it be weird if my parents drive me to tech for a year (:P i dont think i will have my licence until the end of that year of college)

3- what is the social situation in tech like?-like high school? or more mature but fun?

4- is leaving high school early to attend ga tech a prestigious achievement? (bemuse i do plan on applying to Harvard for my mba and i dont want leaving high school early to negatively affect my chances)

5- does anyone have any experience with this that they can post on here?

-also is it worth skipping senior year? because although i do have a couple of friends who i really have fun with, i could really care less for everyone else in my school (and prom isnt a thing for me because i wont dish out all that cash anyways)-

-thanks to anyone who posted!-

I’d suggest NOT skipping senior year for any reason. Apply to some other colleges, and who knows, you may end up at a different school, maybe not. But even if you’re somehow 100% set on Tech, I still strongly suggest finishing out high school.

All of them? Of course not. There are some jerks at our school, yes, but there are jerks anywhere, and for the most part, our students are very friendly. Some may be shy, but most are not jerks.

I don’t think it’ll be weird. I drove with my father every day when I joint-enrolled full-time at the local university my senior year of high school. Have you thought of living on campus, though? I’m not sure if it’s allowed under the early admission program.

We love our football program, but if that doesn’t interest you–it doesn’t interest me–there are many student organizations on campus. We’re a large public research university; you should be able to find students here who share your interests. It’s not like high school at all.

Leaving high school early will not negatively affect your chances of earning an MBA from HBS. To my knowledge, MBA admissions factor in “leadership” and work experience very heavily. The brochure for our MBA program stated that only 8 out of 50 recent MBA first-years had no full-time work experience; I don’t think HBS’s incoming class profile would be much different in terms of work experience. Basically, by the time you’re old enough to apply to HBS, high school is largely irrelevant.

Looking at your post history, you need to not be so uptight. Focusing so hard on MIT will not end well for you.

I only know of one person who matriculated to Tech early, and he’s doing well in my opinion but probably not in yours. He’s not going to Harvard Business School, but he’s a guy who’s genuinely interested in engineering, and has gone quite far on that route even as an undergrad.

I personally know a handful of people who matriculated early to any college, and most of them fall into the category of unremarkable students that just hated high school. Unless you really hate high school that much, I would just stick around there and enjoy another year of being relatively stress free and use this to accomplish something great.

gthopeful:

uptight? i dunno what u mean, but i just wanted to go to MIT for a really long time before i figured out the cost and work was not proportional to the level i want ot go in engineering. I was gunna transfer to a business school anyways after 4 years so…

Transfer to business school? Typically you have to get actual work experience before you can enter business school. Some top MBA programs do not even accept applications from applicants directly out of undergrad. In any event, you should be focused on high school and choosing a college right now, and worry about grad school later. There is no reason to pigeon hole yourself into some track you currently think is what you want to do.

Hey,

I might can help you with this. I got accepted early for the fall. I just turned 16 because I had already skipped one grade. Am I going to attend? Yeah, I think I will. I am not doing it because it will look good on anything, but because I just really really am not happy with my high school situation.

I cant help you with any of the Tech specific questions, but I would definitely say go for it and apply early. Just because you got in doesn’t mean you have to go so its nice to have that option. You just really need to think it over. I hope that I am making the right choice :/
