Hey,
I’m looking to apply to top tier colleges (ivies, but not Harvard, CMU, Georgia Tech, UCB and UCLA, MIT, Caltech [most of these are reach so don’t flame me :P])
I’m a sophomore - am I on the right track, and what can I do to improve it?
Demographics:
White male
Middle to upper middle class
One of the best STEM HS in nation (can’t say which, privacy)
ACADEMICS:
95ish GPA, unweighted (we don’t have weights, even though every course I take has been and will be honors/AP)
Load: All honors courses, they don’t offer APs to underclassmen
Will take AP Physics E/M, Stats, BC classes and tests
Took AP Bio (test, self study), 4
Will take AP Physics 1, 2, Comp Sci A, Macro, Micro, Chem, and others (please suggest) tests
PSAT: 1310 freshmen year, 1420 soph, looking to get NMSQT next year
SAT: None yet, gonna take physics chem, math 2
ACT: Not yet
Essays: I’m humbly gonna say I have no concerns with essays - I’m pretty good at writing.
EC:
- Officer in robotics and coding club at school, first year as officer
- Member of TSA
- Varsity tennis team (1st doubles freshmen year, will probably climb ladder for next three years)
- I do coding and computer competitions (formal)
- I regularly attend hackathons
- Tutoring in math and english (private)
- Starting a job at Kumon in January
- I do volunteer work, going for NHS once time comes
- I do out of school research, and will compete in multiple events when the events come around
- I am going to try applying for an internship at tech companies in my area this summer
- I enjoy computers, math, science, and development
Nothing is finalized, as I have 2.5 more years in high school. I want to do more, so help me out. Tell me where I stand, and how I can stand higher :D.
