Early Decision and FIRST Semester Senior Grades

Do colleges (specifically UPenn) see first semester grades when deciding whether or not to accept an Early Decision applicant?

My school sends quarter grades (or they might? My counselor attached my school report before quarter grades were finalized, so ~), but what about semester 1 grades? If Penn releases decisions the 15th and semester 1 grades aren’t finalized until late December, do admissions officers make a decision based solely on freshman – junior year grades?

Do admissions officers call the school to check semi-finalized semester 1 grades at the last minute? Or is senior year just not important at all (excluding the issue of rescinding admission, etc)?

They don’t see semester grades until after early decision acceptances/rejections are sent out. If you are accepted they make sure you arent slacking and if you are deferred they become an important part of your application, like RD applicants.

Some schools send mid-term grades if students elect it, otherwise, no, they only see Junior year grades, which is why only the strongest students who don’t need first quarter grades to raise their GPA apply SCEA or ED.
