Is it really true that applying ED makes it so that the Colleges dont see your senior year grades (when making a decision)?

Some colleges check first quarter grades for ED applicants.

Students may not find out until later (or may not find out at all), because the admissions office calls the guidance office, not the student, for a mid-term grade report.

thanx brah

Our HS doesn't post grades until February, so the ED is made w/o any grade 12 reports. BUT, the acceptance usually has verbiage saying something to the effect of "We expect your senior grades to be in line w/ your submitted transcript" so if you blow off senior year you could get the dreaded rescinded letter.

Lets say a student who is basically an A student starts getting B/B+s senior year. How likely is it that the student will get his admission rescinded by a top tier college (top 20).

My kid was expected to send first quarter grades in for his ED application. After getting accepted, of course, he also had to submit a semester report in January/February and a final report in June.

I do not believe some Bs and B+'s will be the cause of any rescinding, but I am no authority.

But thats only b/c some school explicitly provide a form (like Duke and Amherst) and request them. But schools like Penn dont have any such requirements...correct me if im wrong.

I can't imagine even straight B's senior year getting an admission rescinded. Throw in a low C or 2 and it could be a different story.

On the flip-side. Do higher grades in your senior year than your other 3 years help to boost your application for ED?

All schools will see your final grades, though these are used to make sure you haven’t slacked off, not for admissions. Some ED schools take first quarter grades; others only use through junior year. But all schools will want to see your final grades and will check to make sure you haven’t caught a particularly nasty case of senioritis.

Colleges most often do check mid year grades for students they are considering accepting.

Do First-Quarter grades affect your chances of getting admitted ED?
