Duke University: Established 1924.

For a university that is under a century old and to be one of the best in the country, I’d say Duke is doing pretty damn good.

“Duke University in Durham, North Carolina traces its origins to 1838 when Methodist and Quaker Families in rural Randolph County employed Brantley York as a permanent teacher for their subscription school.”

“Duke University dates its origin as an educational institution from 1838. Not unlike other schools, it has had name changes as well as a major geographic relocation during its history. For obvious reasons, therefore, one can be confused about Duke’s history.”

Why do you care so much about Duke? Find another place to disturb people.

Is interestingguy in college?

Duke as we know it was established in 1924. My years were off it seems, but Duke is still the youngest university of the bunch.

Didn’t. And will not. There are more top students than there are seats in HYPS, not vice versa; HYPS don’t have to fight for them.

For the record, Duke established itself as a university in 1924, before then it was a college known as Trinity College. Before 1924, the school was very small, consisting only of what is now East Campus made up only of freshmen, which is about 1600-1700 kids. Therefore, due to the fact that Stanford established itself as a university from the get-go back in the 1800s, it makes Duke younger as a UNIVERSITY, and due to the fact that is the argument, I win. Suck it Harvard.

And to be honest I had a curse and stuff lined up at interestingguy, but I am not going to give you the pleasure. So what you’re at Harvard who really cares? If an employer sees a 3.7 from Duke and a 3.7 from Harvard, do you really think it is going to make that big of a difference, especially if the guy is a jerk (not implying anything about jerks who ■■■■■ around on college confidential interestingguy, no I can’t be refering to you!).

And o yea, keep this picture in mind:

God I love how dumb your Alumni are.

“6’2 Sean Dockery from Chicago (Julian) IL didn’t surprise anybody when he made it official for Duke at his evening press conference. However, a lot of Duke fans must be surprised by the fact that Dockery’s academic situation is still very much in doubt, as his lastest [ACT] score was a 15 and his current grade point average in core classes is only a 2.3 (he needs a 17 on the ACT and a 2.5 gpa to be eligible).”

Actually, HYPS indeed fight for certain top students, especially recruited athletes and URMs. That is why they send out likely letters.

My point is that neither is ever going to happen. Maybe I could have been more clear.

in my eyes stanford really doesnt belong with HYP…MIT and Caltech are too different to compare. So yes we get it the oldest universities in America are the best, but they are not the best for everyone. If i were accepted into Harvard i dont think i would go.

I seem to remember reading that Duke accepts about 600 ED, Is that true? How many applied? I know it was 33% more than last year, but just how many people is it? 6 days, 19 hours, but who’s counting?

Interestinguy, please do us all a favor and . . . GO AWAY!

^ They accepted 548 last year. A little over 2000 applied this year.

It’s the RD kids who are screwed…their rate’s easily going to drop close to 10% this year.

Meh I say it’ll over around 10%. Honestly depends on the quality of the applicant pool

I don’t know if the regular kids will be screwed that much, only if they take more kids early then last year. I still think the yield will stay below 50%. But here are the stats from last year:
[Duke University Admissions: Class of 2013 Profile](http://www.admissions.duke.edu/jump/applying/who_2013profile.html)

15% acceptance for Trinity regular for 2013. That is probably going to drop to 10-11% if there is a major increase in apps or they take more kids early.
