ED Applicant Stats

Does anyone have any idea what the stats regarding this year's ED applicants are like? I've seen a post that lists what some of the percentage increases are for ED at other schools, but I haven't come across anything on CC or the web.
Thanks.

for Duke class of 2012 alone? I guess we would need to create our own thread with that info.

i'm wondering the same thing. did the numbers go up this year or stay the same or what? im hoping they went down.

also, does anyone know when we find out for ED?

website says that we will get an email in the beginning of december listing when we will be able to see the status

1,246 applied early decision, an increase of about 7% from last year. Not as large of an increase as I expected. The following article compares Duke's increase to that of Yale, Georgetown, and University of Chicago, which aren't apples-to-apples comparisons since they are all early action. Can't believe the Chronicle didn't make that distinction.

Duke nets 1,246 early applicants - News

Nice hunting, bluedog. I've been waiting for that number.

Class of 2010 had 1499 ED applicants total (458 accepted)
Class of 2011 had 1187 ED applicants total (491 accepted)
Class of 2012 has 1246 ED applicants total (Guessing they'll accept 440-475 kids this year...we'll see soon enough)

Anyone else want to make any bold predictions?

dukes website gives different numbers madboy but i predict 465 acceptees this year

what do you guys base the expected # of acceptances on?? what causes these flucuations??

nmehta4, you're absolutely right. I was reading the "enrolled" ED numbers as oppose to the "accepted" ED numbers (which are below):

Class of 2010 had 1499 ED applicants total (468 accepted)
Class of 2011 had 1187 ED applicants total (504 accepted)
Class of 2012 has 1246 ED applicants total

Based on those numbers, I'm guessing 450-485 accepted this year. To answer your question, mattta, I'm basing this on some averages, and some magical guessing. I think the class of 2011 shift was caused by the Duke Lax incident.

do u think they'll accept as much as last year, it makes sense that they would

did you guys all send in your 1st quarter grades with your application? because my counselor got a call today asking her to fax mine over because they were "making a decision" i'm only slightly petrified haha.

my counselor sent mine in just before november 1st. that's so scary that they said they were making a decision! i mean i know that at some point they're going to be reading MY application, but every now and then i'll think randomly "oh my gosh, they could be reading it RIGHT now! i wonder what they're saying..."

and nmehta4, i think they'll accept about the same amount as last year, I don't see why they'd decrease the number of ED applicants admitted unless the pool wasn't as good as last year's...i'm hoping we're as good..!

and, yeah, dukebball23...this happened during first period so it's been stuck with me for the rest of the day...my B in calculus will not look so good for my application to Pratt.

Yeah...I got a B in AP BC Calc myself. My counselor said not to worry though, since I've had an "A" in Math my whole high school career. I applied to Trinity, if it matters.

I also got a B+ in photography...watch that be the deciding factor:

"hmm...his grades are pretty solid...BUT WAIT! He's awful at taking photos!! REJECT!!!"

yea the article said the pool is "really good" which says sooo much...

Ah I'm freaking out. I can't wait until December 15th! Have you sent out any other applications?

same AMAzingNDA. What are you guys doing while waiting for the admissions decision? So it is coming out then sometime between Dec. 13-15? Has anyone heard anything/or had contact with the Admissions Office?

holding my breath for another couple weeks

Yeah...I REALLY don't feel like sending out any other applications until Dec. 13th-15th rolls around and I get my decision. Am I shooting myself in the foot for not working on college essays sooner? Probably. I'm a High School Senior, though. I should not be held responsible for the decisions I make.

i wouldn't say shooting yourself in the foot...i've only applied to a few others but my 2nd and 3rd choice schools have such long applications that involve actual thinking so i'm definitely not doing those until around the 15th. the only thing i don't know about is whether i should get my teacher recs in soon or not? i mean, i want to have them in on time, but if i get into duke then that's a huge waste of time for my teachers. what do you think? and i like the whole not being held responsible for our actions thing...that philosophy works for me!
