Early Decision II Official Thread

i was accepted EDII…but i cant go, because my family cant afford the 56,000 tuition and was granted no financial aid and told not to appeal. :[ very sad day.

Onebluegoldfish,

I am terribly sorry to read your news.

Financial aid for deserving candidates is a daunting issue for many colleges. Colgate recently concluded a capital campaign with a successful outcome of $94 million added to the financial aid element. Our president has reopened it for an additional $40 million in donations by mid-2012. We will continue to do our best to alleviate families’ burdens in creative ways.

I wish you the best of luck at your college choice and trust that you will make the most of your years there!

I GOT ACCEPTED!
these are my stats:
3.7/4 w
ACT 30
Im a peruvian american
i play tons of sports and have either varsity letter or some sort of leadership
im also involved in so many other ec and had great recommendations

i didnt apply for financial aid

well, markham, considering Colgate wouldn’t so much as give me a cent, the financial aid dept. isn’t quite “creative” enough.

I understand your disappointment about the decision on aid.

I stated that it is the fundraisers aiming to increase the endowment who are the creative ones- as a reread of my post will indicate. The financial aid people work with the structures they have, balancing various demands on their existing resources.

Again, good luck with your plans!

my friend from Nepal got accepted in an Alumni Memorial Scholar. She only has to pay 8k in 4 years…and the huge sum of financial aid, the she received, all came in the form of Grant…** NO LOANS **

Congrats, everyone thus far!

goldfish, I am sorry that Colgate wasn’t able to give you enough. There must be something in your application that made the finaid people think that there’s a way for your family to afford a Colgate education. Good luck with your other applications and we (alums) will continue to do what we can to make sure Colgate is affordable in the future.

Aviv- look back in my old message about getting in touch with an Israeli on campus (actually there are a few faculty members who are Israelis).
