How many of you have applied Early Decision to Elon?
Just wondering what percentage of students get accepted ED versus EA?
Does anyone know of a situation where a student has been accepted ED but did not get into MT?

I don't know the data on ED vs. EA accepatnce rate, so can't help you there.
Elon's admission decisions and MT decisions are made entirely separately. We have been told personally, and friends have been told the same thing, that the processes do not overlap at all. If the MT department wanted a student, but he/she wasn't accepted through admissions, they would not be able to come to Elon. Even the letter of acceptance to the MT department states this (says something like "you have been selected for the MT program IF accepted to Elon University") when students are accepted for MT before they are accepted academically. For example, if they chose RD for Elon application, but hear from MT on March 1 that they have been accepted to Elon for MT, they would still have to wait until March 15th to find out if they were accepted academically to the University. So I think you could be accepted ED, and still not be accepted for MT, or on the other hand you could be accepted for MT, but not accepted academically.

I would totally not recommend going ED for an MT hopeful at Elon. I would absolutely recommend going EA for MT applicants.

My friend above has correctly stated the process, which has been discussed on other Elon threads. EA is non-binding, and you'll know by about 12/20 if you are in Elon academically. This is entirely separate from your MT letter. On the other hand, if you go ED, you must go to Elon if accepted, and there is no assurance that you will get into the MT program. I think ED would be a poor decision, unless you do not care what you major in at Elon and want to go there no matter what.

The MT dept. likely doesn't even know if you have applied ED, EA, or RD.

When I auditioned for Elon, my mom talked to the head of the musical theater department and she said that they are two separate acceptances, but if the MT department wants a person who did not get in academically, then they can persuade the admissions people to let him in.

They also said that they suggested performing arts majors to apply EA. I did.

That is very interesting because I have always been under the impression that it was not possible. Actually a friend whose son was going to apply last year and was not a strong student, was told by the head of MT that it was NOT possible for her to change the admission decision, and that they are two completely separate processes. Maybe things have changed?

I agree EA is a great way to go. My D was accepted EA last year, so when the MT acceptance phone call came on March 7th, there was great joy here even though the call came about a week before RD decisions came out. If she had not gone EA, she would have still been wondering until March 15th if she would get into the University.

I have heard there have been people "helped" into the school when the MT department REALLY wanted them but it's extremely rare for that to happen. There's always the exception to the rule but I certainly wouldn't count on that as my way to be accepted academically!
