My guidance counselor said that I might have a shot at Regular decision for Cornell, but I'm not sure. If I have a good chance for regular decision then I might use my early application toward something else. Can you please tell me, based on my scores and GPA and assuming my essay is decent, if I have a shot at Regular Decision?

Critical Reading- 700
Math - 690

Subject tests
Biology - 780
Literature - 760
Math I - 730
Math II - 650
French - 450

GPA: 3.69 unweighted
Rank: 15/312

My counselor also told me that people who apply for early decision usually have good scores and grades. This means that it might actually be easier to get in through regular decision. Is this true?

unless you’re an URM your sat scores seem low to be confident going into the regular decision pool. but, other things to consider that will make a huge difference in your chances…

to which school at cornell do you want to apply?
your resume (extracurriculars, awards, etc.) from this post it’s hard to say whether you will have the ability to stand out amongst regular applicants

numbers prove that a much higher % of ED applicants are accepted. good luck!

Your guidance counselor is wrong about the chances. Regular decision you are going to be in the bottom of qualified candidates, especially with a low’ish GPA. Cornell usually values GPA more than test scores (which aren’t fantastic either). I’d put your regular decision chances at 30% and ED chances at 45%, based on the given information and assuming you took the most difficult courses your school offers.

I made a mistake with my GPA. It is 3.725 unweighted.
